Another prototype for the next-generation Mustang has been caught testing—this time on public roads—in what looks and sounds like the first sighting of the next-generation S650 2024 Mustang EcoBoost.

This latest disguised Mustang is proof that the Pony Car prototype pool is expanding, equipped, as it is, with unique ID numbers and a unique registration plate. It’s good to see more prototypes hitting the test circuit, after the initial two were caught testing a few weeks ago.

This latest prototype had the distinct auditory signature of a turbocharged four-cylinder, with none of the deep V8 rumble captured on the earlier, road-tested Mustang GT tester. Its wheel design also looks more consistent with the Mustang’s EcoBoost trim. The interior was massively camouflaged, with every surface—including the steering wheel—covered in fabric. We listened for any signs of a trick transmission—such as the manual with a push-button electric clutch in the shift lever—that was just reported as a Ford patent filing. We’re not sure what that might sound like, but we didn’t hear anything noteworthy in terms of gear shifts.

With more prototypes now hitting the road, we should be getting more and more chances to encounter the next-generation S650 Mustangs in public settings. We’ll be on the lookout for new details to reveal themselves in the coming months!

The peak on the center of the hood is interesting. I assume they will they and leave room for a supercharger.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the peaked hood........likely just all part of the camo.

Talking of camo, I don't think I've ever seen a prototype's steering wheel covered too! Whilst its great to see these prototypes, this camo gives us zero clues with regards any details :)

sure they aren't all just EV and spewing pre-recorded engine noises? :)

These side mirrors won't make into the EU market... I hope that that's the only thing that needs to be changed but I doubt it...

It looks almost exactly like a S550 regarding the silhouette... However, the headlights are new... I suppose that they're finally going all in on LEDs ;)

those are just the bargain basement EB brakes the trim (or Indian knockoffs) has had since 2015. WHY of WHY are they not putting the 4-pots across the board? It's not like the EB is a featherweight. You just know they'll hike the price another grand or two so it's not like they don't have the budget slack. Use the cheap-sh*t on the Maverick, Ford. Why are your teams allergic to making a credible performance car? It's not a gad damn Camry!

My bad.

In the UK the EB (when they sold it here) got 4 pots and the GT got the 6 pots both as standard - I only thought it was the GT that was different to USDM :like:

It really looks like they've "clipped" the corners on the rear, above the tail lights.
In my opinion, the ass end of the current model looks way too wide and "out there"
I also don't like that it has a wider track in the back that the front. Makes it look even wider.

So if they're trimmin' dat azz, I'd be all for it.

You love to see it. I find it fascinating that when we saw the s650 Ecoboost track testing, the front and rear overhangs looked massive, to me at least. But they look much better on this car, which is a huge sigh of relief. Because having massive overhangs is a great way to screw up a design, so I'm glad that doesn't look like it'll be an issue.

Camo still makes it look like a late 80's Camaro to me lol.
