Why did you choose an automatic over a manual.

i got an auto for 7 main reasons in descending order
1. occasionally, something in my left hip gets pinched when i move it, causing lots of pain (even though im only 25)
2. i get stressed too easily when at a light in a manual
3. stop and go traffic is easier to deal with
4. it shifts very fast, and in normal and slippery, very smoothly
5. road trips are easier
6. no extra steps in the event of an emergency stop or when racing
7. if i just need to go somewhere or am just in a "just go home" mood, the auto is good for that

i am able to drive a manual reasonably well, even able to rev match downshift fairly consistently. however, reason 1 is the main reason why i got an auto. if that nerve(?) gets pinched and i had a manual, that is going to prevent me from going anywhere, because sometimes it gets pinched so bad that i just have to stop moving at all for a bit. for reason 2, i am very self conscious and getting honked at throws me off so much. i got to drive a manual Bronco a few weeks ago and stalled it and missed 1 or 2 lights because of the stress. i dont deal with stress well at all

Dude is 25 and wrote as he went through 3 mid life crisis, a divorce, a burn out and 30 years of driving experience.

JK :D Yeah your points make sense. I also stopped driving manual especially with the ever growing traffic and bottlenecks, automatic is just so much better.

I went out of my way to find a car with a manual to replace my totalled '07... because they are going extinct and afaik a proper sports car must be manual. I know today the automatic transmission is more efficient, and faster.

This right here to me is the best reason of all. I’m old and have a lot of things that could go wrong with me and get us stranded. So two of my three are automatics and I guess I just take a chance when we’re out in the manual. If I have to call a flatbed so be it. I try not to be too risky but don’t want the time I have left to be dominated by “what ifs”.

Stop 'n go commute for 18 yrs with manual car has caused chronic pain in my left foot. Although it galls me, I now drive an automatic. Seems like Ford has improved the 10-speed shifts in the last year or two.

I went with the automatic because the wife said she didn't like when I was rowing through the gears (I had two previous mustangs with a manuals). I must say now that I have driven it a bit and it seemed to have learned the way I drive I sorta like it. Guess I'm getting lazy as I get older
Mostly because 95% of the time I drive it, it's in traffic, when using the clutch and manually shifting all the time would be more of an inconvenience than a feature.

Also when/if I want to go fast, apparently the "auto shifting" is optimized to do it better than I ever could, and as an added bonus I can pay attention to the road and not my RPM's.

3-Reasons for a Manual

1-It's more fun
2-It's more engaging
3-It's more rewarding

If I was just looking for faster, I would build up the motor

So true the auto maybe a little quicker but it sure isn't as fun (to me anyways)
