I guess you consider the 2010 refresh to be radically different. I really don't. There certainly weren't new body panels like you claim. Just new headlights and grille, and tail lights. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, we all know a mid-cycle refresh is coming. My topic was about an all new platform.
Um...

Basically every body panel on the 2010 is new compared to the 2009. The front bumper, hood, fenders, door panels, quarter panels, rear bumper, and trunk are all entirely different sheet metal than the '09. The only thing that visually looked like it carried over was the roof, and that's debatable.

I recommend getting a new glass prescription lol if you think the only changes they made between 2009 and 2010 were some new lights lol.

The S197 lasted 10 years and the S550 made it 9 years. Both models were produced longer than Ford originally intended. The S550 started development way back in 2009 but didn't make it out until 2015. It was also originally supposed to be replaced by the 7th gen back in '22, But the S650 was also delayed.

Now that the S650 has been out 2 years, and is basically an S550 version 2 platform, how long do you think it will last?

Is Ford thinking long term with this platform or, is this just a bridge to an all new chassis they have planned in just a few years? Considering current car sales, and the lack of competition, I predict we will see the S650 around for a good while (9-10 years), and there will be at least 1 if not 2 refreshes during that time.

EDIT: The last option in the poll vote was supposed to be 9-10 years.
I agree with you, my question is do you think the next generation of Mustang's will still be with a V8 ICE ?

Yes, most likely a hybridized V8 which could be really cool if executed with a lot of passion. A mustang in the style of performance hybrids like the McLaren p1 or Porsche 918 but in relatively affordable front engine coupe form would be badass.

Honest question, do you think Ford has been executing their products with a lot of passion lately?

It’s not Ford having passion it’s Ford evoking passion that is desirable.

That is well said. But having met a number of Ford/Mustang folks over the years I will tell you that they are all very passionate about what they do. Right up to when the bean counters come in the door. :giggle:

Things like the GTD, other mustangs, the broncos, and raptors, I'd say the answer is yes across most of their lineup. Now with them talking about how they're gonna start developing cars like hatchbacks and sedans again, and revive things like the RS brand, it seems like there's a sizable amount of people within Ford who are genuinely passionate enthusiasts.

The GTD is a joke.

The Mustang GT is already too expensive

the e-ray Corvette is $38,000 more than the regular C8

even if $10,000 of that is not related to the electric motor, that's still like $28,000 to add to the Mustangs price. No thanks.
That would be reserved for a $100k high end model like a Cobra Horse Dark Boss or whatever they end up naming it.

Walk me through your logic because that "joke" just set a faster lap time than almost every performance car ever made lol. It was faster than every Ferrari, McLaren, and just about every Lamborghini, and most Porsche models ever made. That's pretty fucking incredible in my book even if it didn't dethrone the king dick 911s like we hoped it would.

We're talking about a mustang that just shit down the throat of million dollar mid engine cars from a decade ago and people are saying it's not good enough despite being faster and a third the price of something like a 918.
