How long do you think the S650 will stay in production?

How long will the S650 be produced?

A lot of the signs point to s650 being around for a shorter period of time than s550. Everything from it being a pretty mild generation in terms of changes, to the fact that they really seem to almost be in a rush to get new variants out the door. Like the s650 has only been out for what? Like 2 years give or take?

In those two years we got the base Ecoboost, the Ecoboost performance pack, the gt, the gt performance pack, the dark horse which is the mach-1/gt 350 replacement, the ultimate mustang with the GTD, the 60th anniversary, and the California edition.

All that's left really is the gt 500 which is coming next year most likely, the mustang raptor, and some mustang hybrids most likely. I don't see what they would have put out so many variants so soon if the plan was to make s650 a slow burn generation with a super long life span.

Prior to s650, and overlooking the fox body, most of the body styles seemed to run for about 5 years. The new edge to the 05, which ran until 2010. Then the new design ran from 2010 to 2015. 5 years is a little ambitious, so let's say 7, meaning we're about 5 years from a next gen mustang.
I always kinda saw the S650 as a modern ā€œnew edgeā€

With that though I agree with everything you said bro.

šŸ˜...until they sell it ala carte like the 911 as far as standard/optional equipment goes.

Hopefully until 2030 at least.

When you only offer one car but need models you produce variants.

Everytime we have a discussion like this, it always brings out the negative comments "The mustang won't get a new generation" "The mustang is doomed" "Ford won't invest in a new platform". I don't agree with any of this. Ford at the mustang's 60th anniversary was talking about how the next 60 years are gonna be the best for mustang, their CEO has talked about doubling down on mustang and investing more in it to take on brands like Porsche.

I think these brands see things we don't. Keep in mind, they employee teams of people to look at, and analyze where the future of the auto industry is going, and I believe the answer is coupes and sports cars could make a bit of a comeback. Laugh at me if you want, but ford doubling down on mustang? Toyota developing like 5 individual coupes and sports cars right now? Why would they do that if coupes and sports cars have no future?

Let's try to be less negative and Debby downers all the time, there's enough of that in the world.

But you also want to keep things fresh. You wouldn't release all of the variants out of the gate and then do nothing for years. You'd space things out more if the s650 was gonna have a long product cycle to ensure things were always fresh and interesting.

You’d start with a platform, determine it’s performance (not just 0-60 but durability/adherence to projections, etc.) and then use that platform with variant 1, does well, variant 2, needs revision, variant 3, …and before long the platform has hung around for a generation (or even longer if the intelligent design is actually better than the prior)

Not sure where to start with this one, but there's lots of bad info here.

First off the specialty editions are no different than that of the S550 which ran for 9 years. California special, Bullitt, Shelby GT350, Shelby Gt500, Mach 1, and 50th anniversary.

The Ecoboost and GT standard and performance pack trims were offered on the S550 as well.

There is no GT500 coming anytime soon.

The S195 ran for ten years not five. 2005-2014.

FORD DOES NOT OWN THE TRADEMARKS ON GT500/GT350! SHELBY DOES. AS THEY ARE NOT WORKING TOGETHER RIGHT NOW. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY TO SEE A COBRA OR BOSS AS THEY JUST RETRADEMARKED THEM.

Minor cosmetic changes

Same drivetrains except dual throttle bodies on the 5.0

Features like the drift stick that nobody even talks about

Where was the effort?
Maybe let the person I quoted answer for themselves. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

The s195 may have ran for 10 years, but it's 2 distinct body styles. The '05-09 and 2010 to 2014 are completely different designs.

There's a gt 500 style vehicle that's already been spied in prototype form. Will it actually be called gt 500? Probably not, but for all intents and purposes, it's the replacement for the 500 in terms of price and performance.

The fox platform ran from 79-04. 25 years
S197 from 2005-2014 9 years
S550/650 2015…..??? But if it has a 25 year run like fox did, 2040.

The Mustang is an iconic American car. But so were the Camaro and Charger…

I love driving my S650, but I have to admit it increasingly feels like a dinosaur in this age of EV’s. You have to wonder how many more years Ford can afford to produce such a beast.

Eventually, gasoline powered cars will probably become like horses: formerly used for transportation, but now used mainly for sport.

I’m just glad I’m around to enjoy driving both my ICE Mustang and my Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition!
Wash your mouth out. How dare you, you've stolen my old age. 😁
Seriously, I think the EV is going to be the shortest lived dinosaur of all.

That's called a refresh. New headlights and taillights does not equal a separate generation. Its still the same platform, and it is no different from the 2018 S550 refresh. Plus I already said the S650 would get at least one refresh.

Ford does not own the Rights to GT350 or GT500 any longer. What ever that car is, its not a Shelby. Besides, I already pointed out the precedent for having multiple special edition cars before the S650. That isn't an indicator of a short generational run.
