I normally leave the auto in auto mode, normal around town, sport or track in the twisties. But yesterday I played with manual shifting. I'm really impressed with this trans, downshifts into 2nd and 1st are a bit jerky at low speed, but upshifts are as good as my DSG's were, and downshifts in higher gears are smooth as you like.
This also seems better than before the service. I'm wondering if the trans needed topping up, but they did it and didn't tell me.

Would your dealer do it? Mine will....for $150.
I don't know! I plan to ask the next time i'm in for service. $150.00 I guess is the reason Ford doesn't turn it on to begin with! Glenn

I own a 10 speed automatic, it works well, shifts as seamlessly as much as I could expect and it shifts amazingly fast and it will out run a manual transmission. Go for it.

Yes! I've seen some screens in FORScan and that's why I am not sure I want to mess with it. However, you make it seem like this one is easy enough and I really want the gear displayed. I may have to venture into the unknown! I do have the screen print! Thanks again! Glenn
I'm sure you will be fine if you decide to take the plunge with Forscan. It can be a little intimidating, but, and I am NO techie, and even I made a number of Forscan changes on my Mustang - (and I've been accused by many on here of not being very bright or rational because I bought an EB instead of a GT ...LOL) Anyway, following directions (instructions) here and on you tube, I added a DH paddle shifter steering wheel to my non PP EB, made all the Forscan changes to change "L" to "M" on the shifter and get continous gear display, turned off all the chimes and the seat belt splash screen, changed the rear view mirror USB timeout from a little over an hour to a minute and a half, and changed (edited) the gauge selection on my center screen. After the first couple of changes, additional changes became somewhat intuitive and less intimidating. I think if you don't experiment, and only change module data that has been verified, you will be successful. After you make the changes, you won't really care why Ford didn't do it ........

Maybe for you, but I don't want to end up with a paperweight! Why Ford, in their infinite wisdom, would not turn that on as the default is beyond me. If there were no paddles, I could understand it. Glenn
Paperweight? All you are doing is changing the default from disabled to enabled. Easy peasy.

Ah, shucks! I was really looking forward to it. There's always your next Mustang! Glenn
I'm sure he'd program your car if you flew him up there for the day. Then he could drive 3 hours down to my place and do mine too. 😀

Or ….. why did Ford take it away from the S650 platform as being a Standard option??!! It was an option in the S550’s Submenu’s but still, it was there to enable or disable. There is the space for the Continuous Gear indicator and to be honest, it looks really odd with that gap/space over the Tach!!!

Sadly, I haven’t ran across anyone on the Forum who lives near South Houston (or even close to the Clear Lake area) that is pretty proficient with FORScan and can gift me with this tiny tiny addition!! 🤭🤭

😔🙄

Once you get FORSCAN open, this is absolutely the easiest change you can make. Just open the IPC module from the list and it almost does itself, see image i posted above.

Now getting FORSCAN up and running is daunting, but doable even by an old fart like me!

Its really pretty easy. All you need is the cable and the program downloaded on your laptop. The cable is on Amazon for like $25. Setting it up in your lap top is by far the most labor intensive because after the download you need a site key and activation.

But once you are ready to go, it takes like 3 minutes to do the actual procedure.

There are lots of threads with videos if you do a search on the forum.

I like the display the way it is. if I'm in auto and use the paddles, the gear select shows, and once it goes back to full auto, it disappears, letting me know the paddle mode timed out.

If it displays the gear all the time, how would you know if the paddle override timed out visually?

Well, you'd know because it would be hanging in that gear. Plus it always times out after a set time.

I like knowing what gear im in at any given time. Its easier see what a down shift does on acceleration. Plus I like to know what gear im cruising in.
