The main reason I am hoping for 4 is I think the active exhaust system requires them, and I really hope they make that standard going forward, or keep the option.

As others have stated, I would guess that this is an ecoboost.
Didn't know AE required quads, that makes sense if that's the case. I didn't opt for it but am always for options vs not. I did like that the EB had quads too though.

I believe this is the direction Ford has always intended. The S650 is everything we didn’t get for the S550. Still 107 inch wheelbase BUT, I bet we see short versions of the platform for the GT350 and GT500’s at about 105.
Maybe a 110 inch long-Stang too but not at launch. This was always the intention but I bet they would rather the S550 last a full 10 years… not gonna happen.

I read the article that indicated S650 will be released early next year (2023) as MY 2024. Does that mean there will be a shorten 2023 model year for the S550? I know the chip shortage and pandemic have led to delays, but an introduction of the S650 next year as a 2023 MY would make more sense. Anyway, article and pictures are good news.

The driver's seat appears to be in the correct location - other than that I will refrain from speculating what might be under that camo. I'm happy to see some progress being made public... is it just me or did 2021 feel like the longest year without much news?

Underwhelming to be honest. Based on what was suggested I was expecting more changes but this looks a lot similar to S550 as is.

headlights are 4+ inches lower than before. Why? I think they did a mash-up of S197 grill and S550.2 with a bar splitting the mouth into 2 sections, left and right.
I'm 90% sure that bar in the middle is just a piece they put in there to keep the camo wrap from being pulled into the intake/mouth and showing more than they want us to see.

You guys really think you can tell much about the design from this heavily disguised prototype (that looks like a base EB car)?

We just got our first look at a production-bodied prototype for the next generation 2024 Mustang S650! No more disguised mules using the existing Mustang body. Under the camouflage lies the next-generation Mustang (prototype) in the metal.

The camo hides the finer details, but we can see what appears to be a more pinched, angular, and modern design language up front. The LED signature looks squinty and horizontal, marking a departure from the current model. We can see two vertical tail-light elements, suggesting a modernized continutation of the current Mustang’s rear-end design.

I knew it... the low life’s from "Autoblog" stole your pics and just cut them so the "Mustang7G" isn't visible any more. Besides, they added their own watermark... Won't post the link to generate more "clicks" for them but "BYRON HURD" is the name of the "author"... Maybe someone with twitter can ask him why he stole the pics...
It's just disgusting!

Anyhow, thanks again for the first pics @Jarstang =)

of course! We are god's gift to internet sleuthing, rumor mongering, and imaginitive visualizations. Ford would be lucky to have us hanging out in the janitorial staff cafeteria.

The EB looks no different than the GT so if you've seen one, you've seen the other.

I will hazard a guess that the rear styling may be taken from the Aston Martin... time will tell.

Maybe this is an EcoBoost prototype?

Also, hooray for finally having photos to speculate on! Again, here's to hoping they exceed what they accomplished with the S550.
I didn't think of that. It would be consistent with what looks like 17 inch wheels.

Looks like they fixed the ugly catfish face of the 18+ that was supposed to "grow on everyone" but kept the general shape.
Idk about everyone else, but that ugly catfish face definitely grew on me. When I had a 2016 and the first 2018s came out, I was disgusted and glad mine looked the way it did. But now the 2018+ looks alot more aggressive, especially in person.
