I think it started when the GT350 with the cross plane crank would have the filter loosen. I have been lubing the filter gasket since 1960. Never a problem with a normal engine.

Unless the oil was for pure racing (for that I like Kendall racing) then my FIRST choice is always Motorcraft FULL synthetic.
Concur. Ran Millers Oils for a few years, picked up a small sponsorship with them. After term ended, went back to MC. Saw no viable diff with between Millers & MC Full Syn.

Thanks!
It's encouraging to know I'm in good company !!!
it's always great to learn from mistakes !

As for oil filter, others have offered excellent advice but add one more check and that is to make sure the previous oil filter gasket ie: the rubber ring, isn't left on the car.
Yes! A common failing on early British cars with the gasket in the filter housing.

This is what I do, because as you have, I've heard too many stories of minimum wage monkeys doing oil changes, no offense I was one too, gotta start somewhere. Plus Ford gets oil in 55 gallon drums, not always the best. Licensed aircraft mechanic now (join the Air Force please) and have been wrenching on cars for 46 years. This isn't rocket science. I photo everything and I email it to my google email account, plus a thumb drive I keep in the glove box.

Seven cars ( join the military, hint) all 2021 plus, (hint join the military). I do this all on my Challenger Scat Pack Wide Body, Camaro 1LE, Cadillac CTSV, and Mustang GT Performace Pack, and a few others.

Drive the car, do an oil change on a warm car/oil. Sucks I know but it gets all the particulates and contamination circulated for a good drain.

What are the jobs of oil? Lubrication, cleaning, and cooling. Important.

Amsoil is my #1 go to for everything, but I always use the manufactures oil filters for everything. 1st oil change, just make sure the old gasket from the factory oil filter comes off with the factory oil filter (odd if it doesn't), look at the filter and the mounting boss(where the filter screws on), check to make sure the old gasket isn't there, its a rubber o-ring.

Amsoil will give you the drain plug torque 19FT LBS for the 5.0. Exercise your torque wench, meaning rotate it to it's highest setting then back to it's lowest setting (lubricates the spring in the torque wrench) THEN set the torque for the drain plug. I let the oil drain until its done, a drip or less.

Tighten the oil filter(not rocket science), I tighten mine as tight as I can hand tight. Not a weight lifter but it should stop when tight enough, being an o-ring. Old days it was a compressible gasket, so we tighten it to it stops and turn it as far as you can. Your no different than the monkeys that don't care about your car, remember that. Just turn it and then some with your hands, that what they do.

See my attached files for what I do to protect my warranty. Your phone records the date.

@robvas ..... you are correct. I asked a Ford tech about this and he said that's what Ford said and when he was taking a course a couple of years ago he asked why. The reply was that Ford thought the filters could work loose. He said all the guys taking the course had a laugh at the next break as all of them LIGHTLY wipe oil on the rubber gasket. He said we'd never get half of them off if we didn't. so I ask the techs to do it and because I'm ocd I do use a flashlight once in a while to see if there are any drips which would indicate a loose filter. I have been doing this since i was 10 and so far no loose oil filters.

I'm the OCD guy, years of flying and working on things you can't just pull over on the side of the road. Lite coat of oil an muscle it down, good enough.

So been shopping for oil tonight and I cannot find motorcraft 5w30 full synthetic. Anyone know a good place to buy it? Doesn’t seem to be in any store near me.

amazon-$12.40, Summit-$11, Walmart-$11, o'reilly-$8.39...naturally prices are subject to be different in different states.

Just got it priced at my dealer and it’s $14 per quart, does that seem right?
Rock Auto online (I mentioned that in my previous post and had you ordered then, you’d have it by this weekend) $5.59. Otherwise yes Ford dealer where it’s twice the price but local and available.
