Recommend Steeda Blue Air Filter which may filter more particles than K&N filters.
Just about every filter has better filtration than K&N. With that said, Iā€™ve never seen a damaged motor directly related to using K&N solely. I have seen dozens of oil analysis samples showing higher dirt in the oil though.

Removing carbon traps do not change a thing relative to performance.

To follow up on roadpilot's reply, there's tons on video's on YouTube, some from reputable performance shops, that have removed the carbon traps, changed the filters to aftermarket, removed the airbox lid, etc., to see if there were any improvements worth bragging about.....naaa.

For the Gen3, several threads identified a 10 HP gain; this aligned with the advertised HP difference between the 2021 and 2022 of 10, and when the traps came into being. It's free HP. Throw in a filter for a handful more, one that's washable and will last for many years.

By itself, it will not make a marked difference in performance. Several who did make the changes reported better throttle response, regardless of mode driven.

If you take the HP above, throw on some lighter wheels (I shed 40+ lbs / 18 kgs easily), consider a Rear Seat Delete, things start to accumulate. It's not huge, but it's something. For little effort.

YMMV.

But there are two traps now with two intakes, and they don't need to flow anywhere near as much air since they combine to basically create the number a single one did before. So removing them doesn't help.

And how do you measure the "throttle response" that people always like to talk about?

It's akin to switching from Normal to Sport +. Each mode often exhibits an improved feel.

Others have reported a like sensation when switching from a traditional to a CAI.

YMMV.

The check engine light could be from the sensor on the carbon filter housing. Those sensors are very very sensitive. Some people remove them before cutting out the carbon traps to reduce the chance of damaging them.

Honestly, till you start adding more HP to the point where you aren't getting enough air flow, changing out the cone filters is a waste. These cars were tested and dyno'd to a balance of perfection for the equipment is has. Start changing all of that and you start un-balancing things.......I believe I read somewhere where the Ford OEM cone filters allow about 350 CFM each, which equates to about 500 HP, at the wheels. Could be off a bit, but the article I read was from a reputable race team shop.

Those 2 or 3 Hp are a mesuring error. If they were honest they would not offer that, but there is a market and people will install it anyway, so why not?

The way the ECU works is requesting airflow then opening the throttle bodies.
Also according to some tuners, the GT has the max TQ tables limited compared to the DH, at about 486hp avobe 6k rpm.
So if the ECU wants 486hp and the airflow is too much it will close the throttle.

This needs to be confirmed yet but a simple log of the TB% should throw the results.

Yes, the percentage of difference between the two would be interesting.
