To whoever is facing this, my suggestion don’t shift directly from Drive to Park

Instead, after stopping, shift to Neutral, let the car settle by removing ur foot off the brake, then engage E brake. And finally shift to Park, then switch off

It’s almost impossible for it to jump forward if you follow this sequence. Because the gear is disengaged when the car starts.

And when u start the car, once its warmed up and ready to move, push the brakes, shift to neutral, disengage E brake, then move to drive. That way ur not damaging ur Park pin.

^ This is actually good and on point. However, me, myself and I usually skip the neutral step but try to always treat the e-brake as if it was a battery cable (first on last off type of thing)

I would completely concur with this. Avoid putting any unnecessary tension to the transmission when parking. I would even add that if you're parking on an incline, pull the e-brake, put the car in neutral so it settles, and then put it in Park.

I follow this best practice and I still hear that loud noise, currently my car in the dealership, they are still trying to replicate the issue.

No matter what vehicle I'm driving, I engage the parking brake before moving the gear selector from D (or R if I backed in) to Park, then I release the brake pedal. Even on flat ground. Been doing this for decades.

Hello. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to see how I can assist you with this noise and jerking concern.

Old tread but wanted to see if there were any updates on diagnosing this issue. I experience too after every start up. It's not a hard jerk, but it definitely makes a slight move forward before the brake catches.

For anyone interested I found the below..Witnessed mine roll forward on remote start up as well..today.

  • Remote Start and Transmission:
When you remote start a 2024 Mustang with an automatic transmission, the car's computer engages a few clutches within the transmission to prepare it for a gear shift.

  • Potential for Movement:
This initial engagement of the clutches can create a small amount of mechanical drag on the output shaft of the transmission, potentially causing the vehicle to move a short distance

More can be found searching the below..

A parking pawl is a component found in automatic transmissions that acts as a safety mechanism to prevent a vehicle from rolling when parked.

Mine does the same thing, rarely, doesn't bother me. Never use the parking brake unless on a big incline.

My 2019 does this. The cool, Idle trans will toss the car against the parking pawl when cold started, that’s the issue. Doesn’t hurt anything. The car will also roll slightly fwd. if revved in park. Just another peculiarity that never got addressed over the years.

Instead of starting yet another thread, I’ll add to this one. I have 900 miles on mine, mostly driven in Normal Mode. Since I just turned over to 900 miles, today I drove down a rural road in Track Mode. I did NOT drive it hard, but just explored the shifting points.

I stopped at the store and when I got back in and started it, I got a LOUD clunk and the car wanted to lurch forward. This was the first time it did that. Then all my gauge colors reset...(I had emergency brake on and foot on the brake.)

I got home, parked in the garage and reset my gauges and restarted the car…CLUNK!

After 2 more starts it stopped clunking.

Then I started it again, gently put it in reverse, rolled a few feet, then Drove forward, then Neutral to let it settle, then park and set emergency brake. restarted it…CLUNK, Lurch………... 🤬

After repeating this a few times, it would clunk and lurch at the start-up if I engaged gears, if I didn’t touch the gears (A10) in between starts, it didn’t do it.

I swear, if I didn’t try Track Mode it probably wouldn’t have started this.

I’ll explore other threads mentioning this…apparently there are more than one.

I could be mistaken, but I thought there was a transmission recall with this issue? I’ll have to look.

Have the transmission fluid level checked. I had some harsh shifting in my Raptor 10r80 and new fluid was a night and day difference.

a good thing to check, but shifting was OK. Only problems are at warm engine startup. Just happened for the first time today. Freaked me out…. 😳
