I've driven a few, no issues. The programing is not going to be like what you would get in a Cadillac with the same transmission in the normal modes. The Mustang has more aggressive shift strategies due to the kind of car it is. In sport mode, I thought it was great. Snappy shifts, but not overly harsh. Plus drag mode was brutal (in a good way), and would rip shifts...

Nothing like the problematic MT-82....

I've had 3 new Ford Rangers (80,000 miles, 50,000 miles and 10,000 miles) with the 10R80 over the past 4 years. Also, one 2022 Mustang GT. No issues at all with any of them.

On the drag strip ALL manual drivers recommend against the A10 FYI.

but what do the A10 guys say?

honestly these days, transmission choice is entirely based on what you want. performance difference between the two is so minor that your average driver probably wont notice any difference there. Me personally i went with the 10r80 because, to be honest, as fun as the manual can be i rarely ever use it to do more than get up to highway speeds. There have been more times in traffic where ive wanted an auto then there have been times where ive been like "i fucking love manual".

as for reliability, its a moving part in a machine that experiences high amounts of power flowing through it, sooner or later its going to break no matter what type it is. Ford has suffered lawsuits for both the MT82 and the 10R80 so pick your poison.

I get a lot of vehicles in my shop with that transmission, some with a lot of miles and really haven't come into anything concerning.

All my cars were manuals. This Mustang will be my first auto and yeah, it is way more fun to have an automatic car. I'm done with manuals.

I have the 10R80AT on my 21 GT PP1. When I first got it, the break in / learning period was awful. First 1000 miles you thought the thing was broken, lots of hunting for gears, hard shifts, etc. After it got out of the break in period, mostly smooth usage aside from 3/4 sometimes being a hard shift. It really took the 1000 miles for the learning period to stop. My father tried to have me take the car into the shop when he went to a show with me, it was that bad during learning. Post learning, it was fine.

I then added the ford performance CAI/Throttle body/Tune kit. This is what should have been on the car from the factory, all the modes got improved and it had to re learn post tuning, but everything is much so smoother and quicker shifting. The new normal is like previous sport, new sport is like previous track, and the new track mode is a wild beast that chases down super charged Camaros at Portland Raceway :D

I'd keep an eye out for when Ford Performance makes the kit for S650s. It'll be night and day performance wise. (S550 kit: https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9603-M8B)

my personal experience, the 10R80 from 2018 to around 2020 was the worst years, i've seen a few vehicles from that timeframe come in with more or less the same issues (harsh shifting, delayed shifting, etc), but it's definitely been getting better. My M1 had a weird thing with it where it hated downshifting to 2nd, as in delayed then harsh shift, but my EB doesnt have that issue so maybe it was a one-off? as with all new technologies, things will not be perfect at first, especially with something as complicated as the 10R80 (it's got 6 shift solenoids and clutch packs with 4 planetary gear sets)

when it works, though, it works very, very well, as it can keep you in that power band for high performance driving, but can also give you some pretty good fuel economy
side note: if you hear a whining noise from the transmission, kinda like a supercharger whine, that's normal. it's the straight cut trans fluid pump gears making that noise.

The A10 in my 18 GT was good. Esp after Lund tuning, The A10 in our 22 F150....is having low speed down shift harshness issues. The A10 in my son's 21 Eco Mustang was great. Same for my 22 Explorer Timberline and 23' Bronco. So 4 for 5 in my experience.

I also have a 22 Explorer Timberline with the A10 and no complaints! All the modes seem to work as they should. I actually like eco mode for daily driving.

I traded my 2015 with 6-speed for a 2019 with the A10. Absolutely love it and have never had any issues with it. I just ordered a 2024 with it as well. I would have no reservations about this transmission at all. I'm sure there are people who have had troubles but it has to be few compared to those who haven't. I know alot of Mustang folks and have never heard of any of them having problems with this transmission.
I have issues with the 10R80 after model year 2019. The 18’s and 19’s were excellent. The 10R80 in my 2020 is not. There is a night and day difference between my 18 10r80 and my 20. The shifts in the 20 are no where near as crisp or aggressive as the 18. Downshifts are horrible in the 20 as well. The 18 growls when downshifting on its own and it just seems to soit gears while the 20 is a soft shifter. Ford really dumbed it down in 20. My biggest disappointment will be if the 24 acts like the 20 and not the 18. I was told they did a torque converter change, let’s hope they change it back.

Wow, I did not know that. Usually you improve things over time, not take a step back. I hope they got it sorted out.

I feel confident in saying in my household we have a lot of experience with the A10. Since 2018 we have had six vehicles with the 10R80 and 10R60.

2018 Mustang GT : zero issues and that was tuned and FBO. A lot of drag racing with 555 R2s. 12,500 miles

2019 F-150 : 2.7 EB Tuned, bolt on truck with 33/20s Trans didn't like cold mornings but what one does. 43,000 miles

2021 Mustang: 2.3 EB Bolt on car, Zero issues 11,000 miles

2022 F-150: 5.0 Tuned bolt on truck, again 33/20s This one is a little temperamental. Mostly low speed hard down shifts. Could be the tune, not overly worried about. 15,000 miles

2022 Explorer Timberline: 2.3 EB Tuned and bolt on's. Zero issues. 12,000 miles

2023 Bronco: 2.7 EB Bone stock, best one yet 1,700 miles

I'm looking forward to the 2024,
