I don't know! I plan to ask the next time i'm in for service. $150.00 I guess is the reason Ford doesn't turn it on to begin with! Glenn
That's their hourly rate here Glenn. Even so, my service was $250 less than our Euro cars.

I own a 10 speed automatic, it works well, shifts as seamlessly as much as I could expect and it shifts amazingly fast and it will out run a manual transmission. Go for it.
I agree wholeheartedly! I think it is one of the best transmissions I've ever driven! It never misses a beat. I am surprised at how smooth downshifts can be, even going into 2nd. Up shifts are smooth as butter! Glenn

Well, you'd know because it would be hanging in that gear. Plus it always times out after a set time.

I like knowing what gear im in at any given time. Its easier see what a down shift does on acceleration. Plus I like to know what gear im cruising in.
My biggest gripe is if I intend to downshift, I want to know when I downshift, am I going to go to 2nd and have the person behind me shit his pants! At higher speeds, there is no problem with upshifting or downshifting. You can pretty much shift up or down anytime you want. No surprises. Glenn

Its all based on throttle input.

I use the paddles all the time for passing (lane changes), going up hills and corners without using alot of throttle. A more controlled driving technique on the road. So gear shift position is critical. Do I need to downshift one or two gears without flooring the car to be aggressive, but not overly.

Agree, that's why I was referring to just visually. A quick glance at the dash tells me if the paddles are still overriding the auto mode or not.

Without the readout, just cruising in Normal, I pretty much know I'm in 10th gear anyway.

At least on my 10R80 car, 3rd and 6th are rough shifts. The 3->1 shift when rolling to a stop seems consistently rough. I've unintentionally spun the car twice (including on the freeway at high speed--thankfully didn't hit anything) partly because I gave it too much throttle in the wet but also seemingly related to downshifts. I reviewed the dashcam footage and each time the car breaks the rear loose immediately after a sequential double/triple downshift, and I suspect the jolt of the rough shifts contributed. Not blaming anyone else for my driving! But I had a 6th gen Camaro LT1 with the 'same' 10-speed and worse tires (245s vs 255s) and never had such issues. The Camaro felt much more confident, predictable, recoverable when breaking traction. The Camaro 10L80 was super smooth, faster, and never caught off-balance even when I tried. I can't believe it's the 'same' co-developed transmission as the Ford 10R80.

You'd be surprised how often you are in 8th or 9th.

My big revelation was how quickly the cars upshifts and even skip shifts from a stop with light acceleration. Or how how many gears it drops based on throttle input.

Exactly and a function of speed/mode. Indicator is a must for aggressive driving.

In the S550 there were paddle images either side of the gear number to indicate it was in manual mode, when they went off you were back in auto.

Yup...I can practically pick what gear to drop down to with my right foot alone.

That was a nice system! Why would they not carry over that function to these newer models?!?
