I know there are a ton of 10R80 transmission cooling threads so not looking to repeat anything but I can't find any info specifically on the trans cooling assembly for the Dark Horse. Does anyone know if the trans cooler is oil to air cooling or is there a heat exchanger for coolant to oil by the transmission pan?

Thanks!

on all automatic Mustangs plus the Dark Horse with the Tremec TR-3160, there is an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler in the stack of heat exchangers in front of the engine. manual GTs do not have this

Does anyone know of upgrade options for the transmision cooler? I have been experiencing constant transmission heating issues on the track. Leading to the car not shifting quickly and going into limp mode.

Have you had the fluid level checked? Just because the dealer did a pre delivery inspection doesn’t mean they checked the fluid in the transmission.

if you’ve been on track > 2 times, I’d strongly consider a fluid replacement. NOT a flush- you are pumping out old fluid and replacing with new fluid only. The 10R80 doesn’t seem to respond well to often advertised ā€œtransmission flushā€ services.

I’m not saying this to either say this is the problem, or that you don’t need additional cooling, only to rule out this as a variable.

Thank you for the valuable information. I have taken the car to the track over 5 or 7 times since I bought it. The last time I was out on track was the worst experience with the car going into limp mode. I took the car into the delaership to have the transmission fluid checked. After checking they advised me not to change the transmission fluid. I have a track event on Friday, I was told if there was anymore issues to bring it back to them after the track event.

I’m going to predict it will behave worse and when you do change the fluid, it will improve, but may still need some cooling assistance.
