Seems fine enough. I’d probably aim it lower so I’d have line of sight on the bumper. It does make you wonder why ford didn’t set the backup camera to be full screen.

The backup camera is full screen. Now I have to double check.

So my options are to leave the camera on the outside of the grill, or have them remove the bumper and place it behind and flush with the grill, at an additional cost. What would u do?

Front profile isn’t bad. But how does it look from the side?

Based on that picture, it isn't that noticeable. We see it because we're looking for it, but most people who aren't examining your grill wouldn't notice it, I suspect.

All these Mustang camera threads bring back memories -- annoying memories of how Ford sometimes seems to want to make life difficult for its customers.

I used to be a member and co-moderator of a Ford Escape forum. The 2013 Escape was the first model year of the second-last Escape generation. 2013 was also the last year in which backup cameras were not mandated by federal law. Most 2013 Escapes did not have the cameras. A few did, because a backup camera was part of the elaborate automated parking package. Then in 2014, the law changed and required all passenger vehicles to have backup cameras.

Thus, all 2014 Escapes, which were mechanically and electronically identical to the 2013s, had backup cameras. And a few 2013s did as well. Ford clearly knew how to put a backup camera into an Escape and have the image display on the SYNC screen. So we expected that Ford would release a kit enabling 2013 owners to retrofit their Escapes with the same camera system. The Escape of that era was a high-selling SUV, by the way. Many owners were out there.

Did we ask Ford to do that? Yes. Did Ford do it? No. Owners who remained interested struggled with aftermarket "solutions" instead.

If there seems to be an obvious, manufacturer-provided answer to a question like this, expect it not to be given. :)

That's where I put my cam in order to see the front of the car and what's ahead of it.
I may put it lower, below the licence plate in future and rely on the warning bars.
Does anyone know if you can place objects like a cam in front of the Radar housing?

Or, if our South Pacific peso climbs against the USD, I might buy one of those.

Call me crazy, but a solid object in front of a device looking for solid objects is.... well... bound to create some issues šŸ˜‰
