Nothing wrong with getting a copy of your ab data as it is before you start making changes, but keep in mind that if you scroll to the bottom of the module config page in FORScan, you will see this "write all" button there. All you have to do is click that and FORScan will pull the ab data for that module from Ford and write it.

This depends on whether the vehicle has synced up with the server or not between the time you made the change and the time you get an OTA for the module you made changes to. Eventually, the FORScan changes you made will make their way to the cloud and become part of your ab data. Once this happens, future updates will include the changes you made in them and won't revert it back.
Wow didn't know that, so they will become permanent to the vin? What if you go to the as built site and re download that? Will that be now not a true default stock vin to reset to like new? When you click write all it connects to the as built site?

So the download is a file named [My VIN Number].ab and I save it to the IDS directory:
c:\Program Files\Ford Motor Company\Calibration Files

when I install ForScan?

Do I need the module addresses below as well?
Save the file and put it safe, save it as is dont change file name. Then keep a couple copies and you can rename if desired. Download FORScan on your windows machine and then you can hit it. Modules are listed when you connect. You'll see it's relatively straightforward.

No, it will not be a true "as-built" file once the changes you make are synced up to the mothership.

In the module config page, if you did not make any changes to any of the blocks and click write all, FORScan will pull the ab from Ford directly.

Oh... interesting that it's sending your modified config back to Ford's servers and that they then must be overwriting their config (tied to your VIN) with your config.

To add to your question: what happens if you want put your config back to stock... when they update the car, it would be modified again....

The overwrite on the server side makes sense. This way Ford isn't overwriting your changes when a new update is released. Both pro and con.

So im thinking since I have the original ab file when I first downloaded it that would be the way to go back to full stock default like when new. Since that file would be unchanged that should work.

This is not always a good idea. Some module updates can contain config changes that Ford meant to send that you would be reverting back by doing this.

The truth is, there is no real reason to revert FORScan changes. If I wanted to, I know everything I changed and I can change it back by doing the polar opposite of whatever I did to enable/disable said feature. Returning the vehicle to it's stock configuration is highly overrated. IMO, of course.

what happens to the new owner when you sell the car? :-)
I guess it depends on the person. You can argue that someone purchasing a used car would want it to be untouched. If I were to buy a used Ford of some kind and it had some FORScan changes, it would not bother me one bit.

I'll tell you what: Whoever ends up with my F150 is going to be very happy with all the fun stuff I have enabled and installed on mine. 🤣
