Noticed yesterday coming home my Interior Overhead lights were stuck on and occasionally flickered. Decided to check the BCM and sure enough water was coming out of it and hanging out all on the connectors. For those who have not had their recall done, check your connectors and BCM! This is a real issue. I was able to clean everything and save it before anything bad happened and am scheduled to get the recall done Monday.

Right side of passenger footwell. One of the other threads on the recall had the recall procedure posted. NHTSA.gov should have all of the recall procedures available in .pdf as well.

Does it have to be exposed to water?
Yes, the car would have to have been exposed to water for it to get in to the BCM. Also, the test procedure requires the car to be exposed to water.

Unfortunately the repair looks like a 2 year old did it. Reminds me of the original 1965-1973 mustang cowl rot out issues

BBOWES9 - thanks very much for posting these pictures of the BCM. Based on other posted pictures from the forum I have been able to better understand all the BCM connectors and their functions.Your posted photo of the male connector pins I would guess that the pins are not gold plated (maybe silver plating or solder flow??) BTW- I wish they were gold plated as that would minimize corrosion and create better contact.

I also noticed that the printed board does not look like it has any conformal coating against moisture maybe just epoxy solder mask? With my engineering background if I saw this inside the Mustang GTD I would be asking for gold plated pins on this BCM module :-) I edited your photos and added some additional info that could be useful for any other engineering minds on this forum.

For anyone who had it done, about how long did the dealership have your car? This is my only vehicle and basically the only dealership I'd remotely trust is 40 minutes away.

There is no reason the board should be protected against corrosion because it is supposed to be inside a dry area; it's the fact that it's not that's the problem and the reason for the recall.

For example, the interior of a normal home appliance isn't protected against moisture because it's not expected that it will ever get wet.

Sure, you want gold pins and might design them in; the person who made them a tin/nickel blend would get a nice bonus for saving the company tens of thousands of dollars. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, you would think the extra cost of gold pins or conformal coating on the PCB plus maybe dielectric grease on the pins would save tons of money later as the vehicle ages, but Ford costs per vehicle would go up.

I agree, but it looks to me like it is not located in a dry area because of the water intrusion or just high humidity and/or condensations with temperature variations could create issues later in years.

OK, I decided that I would add per pin schematics functionality to each of the eight (C2280A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H) BCM connectors for future reference. This could be handy when in later years I may need to do some troubleshooting on the BCM. It is also easier to see what some of the functions are assigned for each connector . There are eight attached PDFs. Nor sure why but it looks like "D" section will not attach here....??
