First oil change--checked the oil next day and it was barely above the min mark

With 1400 miles on it, I decided to have the dealer do the first oil change and check that my old S550 18" GT rims would fit over the new GT (base) calipers (they did).

When I got the car it had 400 miles on it since it had to be driven back from MD since my dealer had to do a trade to get the car. An oil level check after I took possession showed about 3/4 qt low--which from posts on the board suggested that was fine.

Just had the first oil change done and after sitting over night the oil level was just barely over the min level. Had I not checked this board I would have been concerned about the car being low by nearly a qt., but I did want to hear from the dealer as to why this was .
Repeated calls to the service mgr. and leaving messages didn't yield any call backs. I'd like to avoid driving back and try to have that conversation with but I don't think I have a choice with a 1000 mile trip coming up I would like an answer from the dealership.

Question--are these engines capable of providing a digital oil level reading via a OBD connection? Porsche has this capability--I think largely because their oil level display on their dash can vary so much--at least from my experience.

My only advice for you is do not take your car to the dealership for any service.

Put some oil in it and take your trip at this point. Watch the level closely on level surfaces. Anybody that doesn't return my call after spending significant money with them can jump up my ass. Avoid that dealership like ChiTownStang said.

On second thought, make them drain your "who knows what oil and put a new proper oil filter on your car). Sounds like you may have gotten gyped.

DefinitelyIf go there and get some answers. I would go there in person to get some clarification and an apology. And free a service or whatever ,that is not acceptable by any means , what if you went on your trip and broke down middle of nowhere bummville, dam I would be pretty red faced.. I hope it works out for you .. best wishes friend

They drained it and filled it up with whatever the digital readout on their oil pump told them. Probably didn't bother to check the dipstick. I've seen how dealers service centers operate first-hand. You should probably check if they even changed the filter.

Good that you checked the level. There've been a few threads/posts of people seeing same when receiving their new Mustang. New engine, Ford filling not full but in-between Min and Max and other factors could lead to this.

"Note: The oil consumption of new engines reaches its normal level after approximately 3,000 mi (5,000 km)."

All fluid levels are something I'd watch closely early on.

In the instances above, are you checking the oil level in the same manner? My car will read different, hot/cold and how long the vehicle has been at rest.

I feel it's best to check any engine when hot, in the condition the engine normally operates in.

At first glance, it reads the dealer did not check the level via the dipstick before releasing the car to you. Fail on them. There are some good dealers, good service techs, but their numbers are becoming less and less, the work often inconsistent. Maybe seek out a new dealer or a local mechanic shop.

Not that I've seen. There are no sensors installed to support it.

This is such a common refrain across automotive forums. I enjoy cars but not am mechanical in nature and am not interested in performing maintenance myself.

I debated taking my new 25 gt to the dealer for its first oil change. I thought about it for a bit and then decided that since Lebanon Ford (yeah the one that supercharge everything) is my local dealer that the should be familiar enough with the car and know their way around it that I would go ahead and use them.

They probably filled your engine from a bulk tank of who knows what (which I never let them do) and measured it with a filler gun. Your oil needs to be drained with a new proper filter put on before your trip. They likely "cheaped out" on you.

Not to scare you but these new Mustang GT’s are a little more complicated to change the oil. There’s a somewhat large belly pan that has more than a dozen little screws and 2 different types of push pins that makes the filter not readily accessible. One of the two types of push pins never comes out clean and probably needs to be replaced (picture attached). I do my own oil changes and dealing with the remove/reinstall of the belly pan takes up half the total time. If I were to take my car to a dealer and pay their prices I’d expect my car back as it came from the factory. On this forum I’ve read posts of this not being the case. So if you look underneath make sure all the screws, which are easy to lose, and push pins, which are easy to break, have been replaced. If they’re sloppy on that, then they’re probably sloppy on the oil change too.

I had the opposite experience with my ecoboost. I paid for a full synthetic at 4200 miles and got the car home and later checked the oil - it was over a quart overfilled. Red line shows the oil level.

But then - the dealer sent out a mobile tech, fixed it, and my next oil change will be free plus a tank of gas. (I’ll take it in on a 1/4 tank). Dealer sent me several messages and calls of acknowledgment and apology.

So I’m OK with that but must remember - Trust - But Verfy!

This is what I do at my dealer's Fastlane service; $35 for labor to drain and fill with my oil. Best of luck getting it done right!

Every time I have the dealer change my oil they always add 9.5 quarts instead of the 10 it takes. They save money on it because the manual says as long as it is beyond the low dot its good. I always keep oil at my house so, I just too it off when I get home.

Exactly what I have done with my oil and filter and for $35 and they let me watch them do the work....correctly.

Checking levels is very easy and it enables you to be aware of problems before they become major. It's well worth learning how.

I plan on going in to the dealership Monday and find out what is going on.
The bring your own oil approach will be something we talk about...I do that now with our Porsche so if that dealership is ok with it, so should Ford .
