I've never heard piston slap that sounded like a tick. It sounds like a slap.

multiple forum threads, independent shop accounts, many many warranty claims.

Its well documented there was issues in the first year.
Nah. Sounds like a game of internet telephone. This is exactly what I mean by going down the rabbit hole. I spent years on the 6G forum and never heard about any "teething issues". Not saying they don't exist, but you'll need to show me some numbers on those "many many warranty claims". Lol

Thats because it's not piston slap. It just got repeated by every internet yokel so much that people who dont even know what piston slap is starting repeating it. The BBQ tick really got people in a tizzy for a few years.

Maybe because I've been in the trade, but unless it's a new, very obvious noise like conrod or main bearing noise or timing chain rattle, I wait to see if it gets worse. That's a sure sign something is amiss.
