Hi folks,

I recently took my car to a performance shop and did - among others - an oil change. I provided my own fluids, 10 Qt of oil plus the filter.
I have a dash camera on my car and I noticed that when they lifted the car they let it for at least 30-40 min (they were also changing the diff fluid) . When they put the car down , I saw the technician adding both bottles of the oil I gave , then he checked the dipstick few times and after a while he grabs a jar of a different oil brand and adds oil for few seconds (the brand I gave was Mobil 1 5w-30, and the one he added was liquid molly …I'm assuming it was the same viscosity). When I drove the car I went home and let the car overnight , then measured it in the morning and the level was sitting almost in the middle of the hatched area.

So question is what is happening here ? How come after adding 10+ Qt the oil level is in the middle ? In this normal procedure that mechanics follow? That is a performance shop doing all the prep work prior to events. I 'm assuming they know their sh***

Any potential damages that could happen from that ? (oil aeriation , loss of lubrication & damage , different brand mixture ?). Engine spec oil capacity for the GT 2024 model , according to printed owners manual is 10Qts.

Letting it drain is good

Maybe they added Liquid Moly Ceratec additive?

That's a perfectly fine amount of oil to have

You typically follow the dipstick reading for oil level.

No.

You sound like someone who would benefit from changing their own oil so they know it's "done right."

Thank you @robvas . That is definitely the case lol. Planning to do my own changes. Already invested in race ramps

While potential is always a possibility probability is low.

@MustangNoob ..... just my 2 cents but I don't like additives, even Ceratec which some think prevents Mustang "tic" ....fwiw I don't, and I'd be the other side of pi$$ed if someone added an additive without my permission. I think my 2024 GT with filled oil filter takes close to 11 quarts as I only allow FULL synthetic and it comes in 6 quart boxes and I one quart back from two boxes. BTW with all their fancy additives did they pre-fill your oil filter. My tech pre fills it twice. IMO that is the single best way to avoid the Mustang "tic". I like my oil level to just tickle the top of the hash mark. Did any damage occur? Not likely. Would I have a discussion with them before I let them change my oil again? Oh yeah!
