For a filter …. Ugh but guess it’s ok since only needs to be done once a year? Up down on off shield flapper ugh.. frigging wrong plug for that hole. Why not consistency of connection? Why screws, trees, and pins, why not all the same since it’s a service part?
The rivets are used to support the panel in the correct orientation WHILE you install the screws.

Again, it's not a big deal. If you own a cordless ratchet wrench, it takes less than a minute to remove the screws and not much longer to put them back in when done.

But if the rumor is true and can be done via wheel well….

You're gonna soak the panel with oil that way. I've changed my oil (not a rumor) and I would NOT try to R&R the filter that way.

So i performed my first oil change today. Oil looked great. Odd looking black Ford Motorcraft filter was on from the factory. I did the work on my low profile Rhino ramps which made it tight under the car when trying to turn my body around. Electric ratchet made the 15 7mm screws easy. Push pins a PITA even with the correct removal tool but I have an Amazon kit that had the sizes I needed.

I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Plus and a Motorcraft filter.
No BBQ tick as far as I can tell.

I'm sending a sample to Blackstone. I changed at 2,223 miles which is longer than I would have liked but life got in the way.

Next time I'm going to install my jacking blocks and use them as it's too tight under the car when it's on ramps. It was so freaking hot and humid today I couldn't wait to finish up.

So here is the promised follow-up on my first oil change.
No BBQ tick.
Here is the report.

I had 19 screws and 4 push pins on the Dark Horse today. Did you replace the push pins? I did the two that had the pop-up center but not the two that seemed to be one time use ones (for factory?).

Once you do it one time the next time will be easier. Takes me about an hour from start to finish. My 2024 book says 10 QTS but it only takes 9.5. Ford screwed up the manual becuase the 2025 says 9.5 and you can verify with your VIN number. Just like Ford dealer states to check the oil level after the engine is hot and then cooled for 15 minutes. Again the book is crap not suppose to chek the level cold. Just had my engine long block replaced after an oil consuption issue burning a qt every 750 miles. Running fine now.

Is everybody else getting 9.5 quarts?

I meant in real life, not hypothetically.

Have you changed your oil and ended up a the maximum line with only 9.5 quarts?

I replaced the one time use pins with the removable type, to make it easier in the future. Just did second oil change... about an hour... used screw gun for fasteners.

That's what I did.
Was quicker the second time.

Not according to Ford they will never check engine oil cold.
Page 299 owners manual:
CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL

1. Make sure that your vehicle is on level ground.

2. Check the oil level before starting the engine, or switch the engine off after warm up and wait 15 minutes for the oil to drain into the oil pan.

Note: Checking the oil level too soon could result in an inaccurate reading.”
