No offense but I honestly don’t understand what you are saying. I literally don’t understand it.

As a customer who is not known to MY’s I would prefer some reliability in numbers (MY20 build in 2020 not somewhere between June 2019 and maybe March 2021). Besides, I would bet that 99% of the Europeans aren’t known to MYs because even the cars that Fords builds in Cologne aren’t sold as MYs. Here in Europe we simply don’t have MY’s. BMW introduced new engines to the 2021 G20 due to emission regulations but that was something very unusual. Generally speaking car manufactures built a car for 3-5 years straight. Nothing changes, HP, engine, transmission, colors, exterior, interior… Everything stays the same until the mid-cycle refresh arrives. Some call it “Life Cycle Impulse” (BMW), Modelpflege (Merc) or simply a facelift.

I guess my point is to get rid of the MY in general… It is just another way to rip off the customer – at least that was the idea back in the day… But that is another discussion for another forum maybe ;)

Ha! I know what you mean, it definitely appears to be just a US-thing to release the "new model year" in the "old calendar year"........but as an American car fan, I've accepted this as the norm, at least for American cars. Until the S550 started to be sold overseas., that is. Here in the UK a car is known by its registration date......so a 2018 can be both a pre AND post facelift S550......as both types would have been registered in the year 2018. I must admit, when I see a pre-facelift advertised as a 2018, I want to correct them lol

Sure it does, if you read the comment I was replying to.
OP says MY23 cars will start production in March 23.

I say I liked it when new MY cars were available in the Fall the year before.

You say that MY65 cars were built in April 64. If they had 64 vins you might have a point (60 years past) Or if they turn out to be MY24 cars built in March of 23, you'd have a point.

Anyway, if we have different preferences on MY production breakdown, that's OK.

Point being model years didn't always start in the fall. Carry on....

Sort of related news...........at least as far as shortened model years are concerned.

https://fordauthority.com/2022/01/2023-lincoln-aviator-will-go-into-production-on-may-30th/

"In the automotive world, most 2022 model year vehicles haven’t been on dealer lots for too long at this point. However, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator entered production at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant back on August 30th, 2021, and it won’t be too much longer before the next model year changeover, as sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the 2023 Lincoln Aviator will enter production on May 30th, 2022. 2022 Aviator production will end the day before, on May 29th, 2022"

I've asked if those sources can find out if the '22 and '23 S550 model years will be short ones, too, what with the news that S650 production starts in March 2023 as a '24MY :like:

Yeah, it's really strange. A lot carmakers (I think the whole VAG) are still using model years and only doing changes with a new MY like changing colors, equipment options, etc. But cars are never sold under the model year name, I had even people talk to me like "How can a Mustang be a 2022 model if we are in 2021!?". People only look at the date of registration, which means absolutely nothing.

The stuggle is real for me. Order a 22 Mach 1 now or wait for…..23, 24, ? For the new Mustang GT.

I’m in the same boat bro, I’m thinking about leasing a 21 Gt now then trading it in for 2024 model year. I don’t have the patience to wait until Fall 2023 or the beginning of 2024.

Aye Yai Yai! I am talking with dealer now to order a 22 MY. Can I go another year without a car, or lose my shirt on trade next year when S650 released... Hmmm....

We’re looking at about a 1.5 yr to 2 year wait time for actually have a s650 in our possession. I would rather get a 21’- 401a package in the meantime then trade up

Unless you drive an ecoboost or your car has issues, that's a terrible idea. Save the money and put it toward options you'd otherwise forego when the S650 comes

1.5 to 2 years?

S650 production is scheduled to start no later than March 2023, so that's on 14 months away. The first cars will be delivered a few weeks later.

Rumor only. I dont think Ford has given a timeframe. Plus, see the Bronco rollout…

We don’t have any proof of cars Being delivered a few weeks later after production in March 2023. Not to mention The 2022 production was just put on hold for this week due to chip shortage. We’ll only get to see the s650 reveal this year.
