2.7EB v6 replaces the 2.3EB 4 banger. A special EV package drives the front wheels for a cheap-man's partial 'quattro'. The Coyote3 continues unchanged.

The above is pure speculation.
Putting the 2.7 to replace the 2.3 actually sounds likely and a 2.7 HPP should be in the 350 to 375 horsepower range which would make it a great competitor for the JDM cars. Not to mention a V6 would sound better but torque numbers might be pretty close to the current 5.0 and make it a competitor so I really hope to see a bump in power on the 5.0 to get it close to 500 since chevy’s 6.2 is pushing out 495 in the C8 now and I doubt Dodge is going to keep their power numbers the same.

Crazy idea now that I’m thinking about all the nice EcoBoost engines ford has.

Since ford is making the mustang it’s own brand with the mach E why not come out with a “baby” mustang kind of like what they did with the baby bronco. Shorter car with only 2 seats and throw the 2.7 or 3.0 EcoBoost in it. Much lighter car that would be fun to drive. Great competitor for the 370Z, Miata, Supra etc. As long as they don’t mess up the exhaust note I might take it over a V8.

I see the S650 as a very small-step evolution of the current car... architecturally adding accommodation for a hybrid battery, some very minor engine work with the existing engines, freshening of the front fenders. Not any major weight loss.
I can't believe that in this financial climate S650 could even be as much of a change as, for example, the SN95 was from FOX (which was all but identical underneath anyway, retaining every architectural issue such as the terrible weight balance and the gas tank location).
S650 is hardly a "new" generation, although of course as usual it will be marketed as "all new".
Ford just doesn't have the money, their losses worldwide are too large, this Mustang isn't a priority compared to all the other active and planned programs, and as was said the number of platforms has to shrink further still.
S650 is the end of a dedicated Mustang platform... followed by CD6 with all the of a fully shared platform.
As to the patented hybrid V-8 in AWD form... can you imagine what it would take to put this into the current architecture? By the time you've done that you literally have another all-new platform, although one that has been band-aided and chopped to the extent of the DEW98 -> S197 hackjob. I can't believe this engine and AWD drivetrain could be offered until CD6 - which is certainly already designed for it. That's the performance V-8 of the CD6 timeframe - big HP and ginormous torque. And after that an all-electric Mustang coupe comes along in the vein of the Mustang Lithium with over 1000 HP and 1000 torque.

I hear they've got a new 7.3 liter...:giggle:
6.8........
We’ve been dissecting this statement by Unifor and have fallen into two camps.

One camp acknowledges that Ford could produce a 6.8L OHV off of the 7.3L and that such an engine could likely package in the S550/S650. But why would they? It would be cast iron, like the 7.3L, so likely heavier than the 5.0. Mustang is already front heavy. This won’t help.

The other camp (led by yours truly) is of the opinion that the Unifor rep misspoke and that what will actually happen is the Windsor (or was it Essex?) plant will build engines for Mustang (5.2SC) and the 6.8L for F150 Super Duty. Somehow it came out as the plant will build 6.8L for Mustang and F150 Super Duty.

The Romeo handbuild line has to be relocated when the Romeo plant closes and this is where we think it is going.

I'd almost bet my house (which is paid for. Ha ha) Ford won't put a 6.8L V8 in a Mustang, but we'll find out soon enough. Ford slapping the Mustang moniker on an SUV, should have been a hint of the future of the Mustang :). So going from a 5.0 to 6.8 seems ludicrous to me at this day and age. But we'll see. Also the downgrade to a pushrod engine would make it a deal-breaker for me. I'm done with low-revving pushrods; already had 3 (LS1, LS2, and LS3).

That might be an S650 mule. Heavy camo on the front suggests to me that they have at least parts of the S650 nose on there.

Hmm, beginning to wonder if this guy is just an idiot? His intel is very unreliable at times.

Seems a lot like 2014 spy shots of the 2015 GT350...

Feeling really stupid now.
