How do people choose whether to go squared or staggered on their Mustang?

You can fit larger wheels and tires more comfortably in the rear than the front.

My Dark Horse handling package came staggered, 10.5/11 and 305/315. I think the standard Dark Horse and the GT Performance Package are staggered, as well.

I will probably remain staggered for my street tires, but go square for track (HPDE days only) - 11" all around with the same size tire, mainly in the hope of getting a little more tire life by rotating tires. Thankfully I have a lot of other track Mustangs to compare wheel, tire, offset, and camber, to learn from others on what works and what does not.

I get that, so why do some people go squared? Is it purely a cost saving tactic so that they can rotate front and back tyres?

depends on the car, some cars handle better on a squared setup, but cars like the mustang need wider tires to handle the extra power

911 Porsche has drastically staggered setup, as does Corvette and supercars

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS, probably their best all around track car, has 275/35R20 tires on the front axle and 335/30R21tires on the rear axle.

On my car, the track set up will actually increase by a half inch, to 11", on the front, to match the rear, rather than decrease what I can install on the rear. I intend to have tires with tread in the 10.5-11.5" range, as well, the same on front and rear.

If I could run 12 or 13 all the way around, I would.

Some of the older Mustangs, the track guys cut the fenders open and install what is essentially a flared fender or wide body to fit larger wheels and tires. More traction and they handle the heat better, as it takes more time to overheat a wider contact patch than a narrower one.

It's my understanding that the computer knows the difference between 19" and 20" wheels. I could be wrong.
It’s not just the wheel diameter. It’s the wheel & tire overall diameter that affects revolution/mile that the computer monitors. You can have a taller wheel and get a shorter, the same, or taller overall diameter based on which tire you put on it.

Regarding squared setup and tire rotation: the offsets on the wheels are different in front & back. Mine are +24mm front & +50mm rear. How can they be rotated? I don’t think they can be moved around. I could be wrong. Open to education.

I did 285/35 x 315/35 on my new 20's with Conti DWS Sports
No Rubbing , speedo off 3mph but who cares
I think my cruise control may not work anymore come to think of it, didn't realize it was the tires.
I'll have my stock summers back on in a couple months so I will need to test

Does cruise control completely not work? Or is it just the adaptive and/or lane keep assist?

When I purchase a forged (not flow formed) set of wheels from Apex for the track at 11" apiece, I will purchase all four in the rear offset only. Then I will install a spacer on the front to make up the difference. Then all four wheels may be swapped around without removing the tires.

When I had the 20x10 wheels, they had a +35mm offset all around. So depends on the wheels I guess.
