Its "designed" to run on e10 fuel. Octane is a variable. If it sees low octane, it will adjust spark down. If it sees higher octane and no knock, then it will add spark to a limit. But the factory stoich point is 14.08 in the tune. Thats e10 which most stations have in 87, 89, 91 and 93.Almost like it was designed to run on 87... imagine that!
My take on it is that, while you need 91 or higher to realize the full potential of the engine, running it on 87 does not harm the engine as long as you aren't hearing any knocking.
My GT is my DD when I'm not on the bike. Roughly 60 miles round-trip to and from work. I fill up with 87, and have had zero issues in the last year and 11,000 miles.
