Check you car with a fine tooth comb when you pick it up

Had my car for a couple of months now. Not my daily driver so it sits a lot. Gave it a good wash yesterday with Restore (great wash!) and discovered this. I am the one that posted about my exhaust tips not being the same (one side in more then the other), now I am wondering if the car was hit while on the dealer lot and the exhaust was pushed back.

Damn. Sorry to hear that. Luckily you can polish that out. I am sure the exhaust can be adjusted back to spec.

I do agree, make sure they do detail it and then take a magnifying glass to it, well, not a magnifying glass, but look it over real good.

In your pic, I assume the rear ail lights are ok, not sure if that was a tad of a scratch or just reflection, I'm guessing reflection.

Mine, I wish I had had them detail it and then looked it over better. When I bought mine, the guy that does the detailing had gone home, and I figured, new, should be ok. Well, when I washed it by hand about 3 or 4 weeks later, I noticed a couple of small needle tip type holes in the paint, 5 of them. I was able to just buff 2, but 3 remained. I took it to the dealership and they said it probably happened after so they won't cover it under warranty. ugh. I am able to cover 2 just fine with the touchup paint, but the third is on a side and I can't get it just right.
I know it will get it's own dings over time, but ... anyway, ensure you have them detail it before you do your final checkout..... I will take it to a shop someday to see what they say, but it isn't a massive priority now.

But I am driving it and loving it more each day I drive it. Took it to the
Ford Performance Racing School at Charlotte, the Mustang Unleashed they provide, wow, it drove great going over and back, and then drove their Mustangs on the course, and then the darkhorses on the Charlotte Motor Speedway itself.... wow.... I highly recommend that you go if/when you can, I don't know where you live, me, just a few hours drive, of fun.

Yeah, I found a scratch on the driver's quarter glass that I am going to have to deal with because I didn't catch it during delivery.

Sorry to read of the damage. For those picking up your cars in the future, I was given 72 hours to return and discuss any shipping damage. After that, the window for Ford filing a claim with the shipper would be closed. Discuss this topic as part of the closing.

My salesperson was very good about me checking and re-checking the car before closing, including a test drive. I was allowed to take all the time I wanted. YMMV. If you have a friend or family member available, bring them as a dis-interested third party, a cold pair of eyes.

Regarding detailing, I'd actually consider going in the other direction: asking the dealer to perform their inspection and check, then park it and don't touch it. Don't wash it. Don't attempt to do anything further.

As part of the signing process, I was able to witness the two individuals detailing the car. They had a pile of rags, dirty, multiple product uses, they were using to "clean" the exterior. One reached for a can of rubbing compound. I was becoming genuinely concerned. I walked out, shook hands, introduced myself, and stopped them.

I won't be there as I'm getting mine shipped from the dealer down to me, so I'm relying on them to do a good job inspecting it.
Of course, I'm going to inspect it myself once its delivered, but hope I don't find any unpleasant surprisees.

I think the main thing to check for are those objects around the suspension, and general fluid levels.

IMO, this is one of the most important steps before taking possession of a vehicle. Identify problems, have salesperson acknowledge them and initiate fix, repairs, etc. Most reputable dealers will allow a certain amount of time after taking possession, to catch boo-boo's and return car for fix, repairs, etc.

I agree with all of the above, check 'em out as best you can before driving off.
Regarding detailing, I have seen my two local dealerships detail, and they don't use dirty anything, they get new towels and everything fresh, etc. So for detailing, I guess your mileage may vary.

You've owned your car for at least two months, yet you are blaming the dealership for this without any evidence to support your claim? No offense, but not sure how that works.

There's absolutely no way I would have missed that for over 2 months after dropping that kind of coin.
