Can the S650 10R80 be tuned to skip more gears?

not in a bad way the car is holding the higher rpms because it thinks you may want to accelerate quickly again same under heavy breaking in sport or track mode
after a few seconds it will upshift if you dont hit the gas hard

another thing it does in those modes is not shift when turning to avoid unsettling the balance in a corner

Yes, I like that feature... great for curvy country roads.

Correct. The throttle mapping is different in sport mode. Its front loaded to feel more responsive. So if you mash the pedal in sport mode the same way you would in normal mode, the car thinks you want to keep the RPMs up and it wont up-shift right away. Thus "hanging in a gear".

You have to soften your pedal input a little bit in sport mode to avoid this. Once I learned how to adjust my foot to the throttle mapping, the car adapted and I doesnt hang in gear much at all anymore.

Hence my comment about "too much pedal" and drive mode.

So the “problem” is that I mostly drive in normal mode, and in that mode the transmission works great, but if I want to, say, accelerate briskly from a traffic light for about 20 meters and then let off the gas, the car revs way too high for a few seconds afterward. And yes, if I want to drive like I’m on a racetrack, I’ll pull my 1,100-horsepower Hellcat out of the garage!

its normal nothing wrong most sporty cars do this if you where accelerating hard
but maybe slippery mode would help reduce that

ok well my other winter car thats not even that sporty also does it holds the revs for a few seconds after hitting the gas and letting off

I drive 2024 6MT, but I cannot understand Ford putting a 10-speed auto in these cars! These are not a semi for heaven's sake that need to have more gears to match up torque curves over wide range of road use. Just doesn't fit the character of a performance car IMHO. I know those of you that like autos have no choice, but I believe Ford did a disservice to those owners with this transmission.

If i recall correctly the 10r was a group effort.

I was reading about what custom tunes do to the transmission and one of the things I read was making the Mustang NOT skip gears. I found that more logical, but tuning the trans to not skip gears, means the trans has to work even more, which brings me back to the durabikity question.

Now this question is to skip more gears. I think skipping more gears will make the car more clunky, or shaky or whatever it's called which also hurts the durability I think.

The way the trans is working right now is for me the sweet spot, but I do understand the tune to NOT skip gears and use all of them, but for me that is a bit overkill.

That seems strange because the behaviour you’ve described is exactly what the car should do if you gun in.

If I recall correctly. You can skip gears in the auto.

I’ve tested this today, double press (as quickly as I can possibly do it) both up and down through the gears (whilst not in manual mode) and it doesn’t skip going either way. Because the gear change is so smooth you might be missing it but it’s definitely there in the exhaust note.

It shouldn't do that in normal mode. Maybe try a reset so the trans re-learns. How many miles.

I'll have to try resetting it. I bought the car about a week ago. It has 15,000 km on it, which is about 9,000 miles.

Ah ok. That makes sense. The car has learned the driving habits of a previous driver. Try the reset.
