Ok, I'm going to ask this probably very dumb question and see if any of you have some magical solution that I'm missing. Ok, so here's the thing. If I want to add some boostane or ANYTHING really to my car when I'm filling up..I've found that some bottles are too short and won't get past the door..so they like to spill all over. So...great..use a funnel, right? But then I have a fuel or additive drenched funnel adding odor to the trunk or cabin that will take a good while to go away, not to mention that it's not the best thing for you to breathe. So does anyone have any good cheap and or disposable solutions that you use for this type of thing? They do make cheap paper funnels but I'm not sure if they would work or cause any issues.

Any ideas? Or do I just need to suck it up and deal with the smell?

Thanks!

There's a little funnel in your trunk. Just remember to put it back when you're done. At least the guy at the dealership said I wasn't the first one to throw his out by accident.

I wipe the ford funnel off after I'm done with it using paper towel supplied by the gas station where the complimentary windshield washer squeegie thing is.

1. You need to use the included funnel to open the flaps inside the filler neck, unlikely a paper funnel would do that.

If worried about smell/mess, put it in a ziplock bag.

If you do not like the included funnel, there are funnels available in store that are rated for use with capless gas tanks.

In your trunk, check the highlighted area for a white funnel.

Some parts stores will also sell similar funnels, often yellow in appearance.

You can use the clear plastic zipper container/bag that drapes/pillow case’s come in. I’ve got a zipper close clear plastic bag container i use for my diesel fuel gloves. Zip them up in the bag and stored in the door pocket. Basically the same as a heavy duty ziploc but has a real zipper.

These days, one cannot buy a plastic gasoline container without a small pouring nozzle. Us older folks can remember metal gas cans with screw-on lids as large as 2 inches or so. All this to assure we don't pour leaded gasoline into vehicles with cat converters. Maybe there are gas pumps out there selling leaded gasoline, but I don't know of any save for those at airports.

Funny thing. It has been nearly 50 years since unleaded fuels were mandated for transportation vehicles. Yet, ICE powered light aircraft still use leaded fuel. In fact, it is this specific use which is now the largest source of lead in the atmosphere. What makes pilots of these aircraft so special?

I keep a roll of paper towels in my car. They work to wipe off funnels and I refuse to touch a gas fill up handle as someone, somehow seems to get gasoline all over them then I get back in my car with gas all over my hand smelling like gas. So, I grab the handles with a paper towel over them, always. Just my way of doing things.
