Which fuse did you piggyback off?
I saw the that vid and tapped into the mirror power, which appears to work well. I'm also running JBV1 on a dedicated phone as the display. So, like you, I have the mute function within easy reach.

Thanks muchly
I have the R8 uniden tapped into the auto wiper sensor for power and use the USB tap in the mirror cover to power my dash cam it's all neat with the wires basicly hidden.

The rain sensor plug you're piggybacking off of to power your radar detector--which wire is positive and which one is ground? I don't have a multimeter right now

Is it like this?

Look at the very first post. It describes the wire colors for power and ground.

i saw some posts in here asking about radar detector recommendations, so here's my two cents: check out Vortex Radar's channel for that stuff. he has been doing this for a long time. also, if you know there is LiDAR in use in your area and you want to counter that too, a radar detector will not protect you from it.

some radar detectors will mention when they detect LiDAR, but by that point, its more of a "mentally prepare yourself for an incoming ticket" thing. some detectors have the ability to plug in a LiDAR jamming/detecting system, which is much better than the detector itself's, plus it can actually jam them too. there's also dedicated custom install systems that may only leave a screen and controller out in the open, but they are complicated to install.

finally, if you do get a system that can jam LiDAR, please do not operate it in "continuous" mode. the goal is to allow you to slow down before a speed can be gotten, not deny it entirely. that's how it gets made illegal. speaking of which, some states have made LiDAR jamming illegal (and obviously radar jamming is a federal crime) besides, most states consider LEOs "experts of speed" and they can just pull you over anyways if they think you are speeding. i heard a story from a friend who got a ticket for 5 over despite continuously jamming

some legality info (as of 2017): radar detectors in the US are only illegal in Virginia, but in Canada, they are illegal everywhere except British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. in the US, LiDAR jamming is illegal in California, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Virginia. in Canada, LiDAR jamming is illegal everywhere except British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan

What's interesting is that while radar is regulated by the FCC, LIDAR is regulated by the FDA.

FWIW, I’ve encountered true laser probably 2 times across tens of thousands of miles and many states (actually only caught laser while crossing state lines on travel weekends). 99.9% of the time the cops just sitting on the road just letting their radar do all the work. Laser requires point and shoot and like @roket said, it’s more of a ticket detector at that point than anything.
Got tired of Dallas toll roads giving me false laser alerts so I exclusively run Ka band now. (X, K, Laser turned off)

OP shows a different connector than what I posted. OP's is 5-pin, but I'm showing a different 3-pin connector by the rain sensor itself (the thing that looks like an encased coin battery). The 3-pin is technically the rain sensor connector. Base model Mustangs don't have a 5-pin like OP, but we all have the 3-pin. It's also what third-party vendors are using (i.e. FitCamX uses that plug, and various Amazon sellers selling radar detector cables).

But I think my pin labelling is correct from comparing to other Ford model forums (pic below not Mustang, from an Escape or Ranger or something):

I don’t have the answer for that. For someone else that may try to to help you, what electronics do you behind the cover? Mine has everything, so I don’t know what the model breakdowns end up being.

i did some referencing of wiring diagrams and parts, and it looks like OP tapped into the auto-dimming rear view mirror for power. here is the connector on the mirror.

In my case white is power and black is ground. However mine is a Dark Horse premium and it looks different than mine I seem to have five wires I think it's been awhile.
