Followed this guide today and hardwired in my Uniden R8W with Blendmount. Works great!
Will probably still tinker with location and angles, but its all tucked up there for now. -No idea why it look like it's half on in that picture lol.

I have my R8 mounted like this but for some reason my GPS just refuses to connect? Is yours like this? Is the antenna being blocked by the mirror housing or is it something with my unit?

I've been using radar detectors for the last 40 plus years. Started with the original escort and moved to beltronics for a while. Then escort bought beltronics, and now both are owned by a conglomerate that owns cobra as well. I was never a fan of Valentine but they work.

More recently I found that many navigation systems started giving false laser alerts when mounting to the rvm. Since I'm new to Mustang I'm just wondering if this is a problem on the Dark Horse? I'm just starting to sift through the nine pages of this thread.

Thanks,

I occasionally get a slow gps connection but it seems more location dependent than anything else.

I have mine mounted on the passenger side of the windshield at the top beside the mirror. So the GPS works fine. The way you have it I found blocked my vision. Where mine is it does not block my vision. I have it hard wired into the mirror to the rain sensor. No wire hanging down.

I might have to do this if I can’t figure out a solution, thanks.

considering this mod.

For those of you mounting your detector on the upper passenger side of the glass, what mounting device are you having the most success with???

its gonna suck to cut up my sunshield to fit around this thing. Groan. šŸ™„

No issues here. V1 Gen 2 under the RVM. It also has a B/T connection to the phone display, and that has no issues either.

I did just have to replace my R8W under warranty and it is connecting to GPS faster. I warrantied it for the front sensor not working (only would detect side and rear). Not sure where the GPS antenna is located. I'll pay attention to it's connection speed the next few days for you.

I'm using the suction cup mount that came with the R8 and it has been stuck there for the last two years.

@Interstellar -- thank you for a great write-up. I followed this thread and found it very helpful. And thank you to the others who also commented. Everyone's hints and tips were great. I ordered and installed both the BlendMount bracket referenced, as well as the RadarTap power lead from Amazon. Installation went smooth as silk. I cut a small notch in the overhead housing to pass the power lead out, which you'll see between the two yellow clips. Again, thanks, guys -- you've done a noble service to fellow owners!

glad you found it useful, the install looks so clean it impresses me every time one of y’all shares! You’ll soon realize how much you despise people who have giant mounts sucking up on their windshield, dangling cables, or both blocking the driver’s view. Cheers

Your hint to leave out the extra bracket link was especially appreciated -- it saved me time, and trial & error, to get the perfect fit the first time. Thanks again. šŸ˜ŽšŸŗ
