I'm new to a Mustang last month coming from a Camaro and Challenger. LOVE the Mustang. So far my favourite ride. I think the stock automatic shifter looks cool being new to the Mustang but the "non-leather" look of the shifter boot looks CHEAP! I also wish Ford would use a tiptronic style gearbox for their automatic. The paddles are nice but shifting with the stick is even more engaging. Just saying!

Among the logos to choose, there is a standard manual H pattern looking one, but, instead of four or six gears, it shows one through ten gears and reverse.

That style auto shifter has better functionality than the top flap style Ford gives you. I'd like one where you pull up on the collar instead of having to push down on the knob.

How does pulling up help?
I had a pull up collar on a custom shifter I put in my Prowler. It just feels more natural pulling up on the collar than knuckling it down.

But that said, after accidentally pulling back into manual mode yesterday and revving to 6500 RPM in first gear while still in break-in mode, I need anything but the stock shifter mechanism! I was furious at myself and Ford for making it so damn easy to unknowingly go into Manual Mode. At least with the collar, I won’t instinctively press down after shifting into Drive and then be able to keep Manual Mode locked out.

I’d say 99 times out of 100 we go into Reverse first, then shift into Drive, giving me a chance with this new knob to NOT press down the lockout release and accidentally go into Manual.

UPDATE: I ordered a shift knob with lockout adapter. Looking forward to getting it! I wanted the leather wrapped knob, but that design looked like it sat up almost a full inch higher.

BTW: a thought lining up a knob with graphics….I got a knob with the GT logo on it. I saw an install video where the instruction was to just gob a bunch of blue Locktite on the threads and let the knob sit on it until it sets.

I thought maybe a better solution is to shim the top of the threads with washers until the knob screws down tight and the logo sits level. Then maybe just a small dab of Locktite is needed, or not at all.

I’ll admit, I bought 3 knobs because I couldn’t decide, and might just switch them out from time to time.

Anyway….I don’t have the shifter set yet, just ordered today. So what are anyone’s thoughts on just shimming the top of the shifter post with washers to get the knob logo level?

I don't know enough to have any thoughts, but take pictures and describe what you do here. It will help somebody.
