Ooookkkk. I'll just stick with the old tried and true start up.

I think the last time I had a flooded engine and had to keep the pedal to the floor to start it was about 1975 in my '69 Dodge Coronet 318/2bbl; whose carb I never cleaned.

Yes! I had a mullet and was banging on some KISS too! 😉😆
I'm with you. Knowing my luck, I'd press the gas pedal and blast through the back of our garage. Things are waaaaay too complicated today.

FWIW ... I have attempted this for my 2V 4.6L directly after oil changes. But it doesn't make any difference. (just my experience - not trying to debate)

Some reason my 2V takes a while to build oil pressure right after its oil change, and it makes a huge racket for a few seconds until the oil gets to where it needs to be...

I know the 2V is an entirely different engine, but I thought I'd share my experience of attempting this procedure in hopes of correcting my dry start situation.

My (weak) theory is that the oil pump isn't actually strong enough to lubricate the engine until it is turning some real RPMs.

I had all my weight on the brake pedal when I tried it, I had exactly that on my mind.

My car will be sitting till spring and I won’t be doing anything special when starting it in the spring. I am done overthinking about my car as it will just take away my enjoyment. As for the maturity in these threads it’s not that deep. You can’t ask a question and not expect different opinions and arguments.

Isn't that the truth here. 🙄 ^^^

Mine will never sit where I live. It isn't a concept I can envision.... 🤣

When move to Florida next year it won’t ever have to sit. Unless there’s a hurricane that turns the streets into the ocean 😭

Having rebuilt a few engines, we used to leave the plugs out and spin them on the starter, it doesn't take long, about 5 - 10 seconds from memory, to see pressure showing on the gauge, and it got up to a reasonable level as well.
The oil pumps were generally gear type

I completely expected different opinions. What I did not expect was a bunch of anecdotal evidence, and "way back in my day when I had a carburetor" story's about completely different things and how there is no way what I stated could possibly be true. Despite plenty of information stating it is.

Then the Sharing of multiple posts about priming a fresh build , which again is a different subject.

When you turn the crank , oil flows. A Gerotor pump is a positive displacement pump. A set amount of oil is pushed every rotation , regardless rpms. Feelings don't change that fact. Cranking an engine over doesn't put a fraction of the forces that firing an engine does.

I also never said this was to be done daily , or that it even makes a big or any difference at all.

Clearly how I decided to treat my car got plenty of panties into bunches though.

Thank you to those who were respectfully able to share their opinions about how they prefer to treat their own car.

now ,,, Commence the insults.
I'm ready ! Lets see who has the best one...

Ford saying "do not prime the engine by cranking it" doesn't mean anything I guess.

It doesn't flow as much as the engine starting up. Too low of an rpm from the starter alone.

Priming would be getting oil through a new dry engine

what are we talking about then? Getting oil through an engine that isn't dry? If it's not dry...

He's literally trying to engage in the conversation and making valid points. Why cant you just answer basic questions and respond to the conversation instead of coming back with snarky remarks and insults? If you disagree then make your damn point. We're six pages in, and you seem more interested in deflecting the topic YOU started.

Not possible in a modern car as they will not start without being in park and foot on the brake (auto) or clutch in (manual) for that very reason
