I've had a few experiences with safelite and they were all bad.
1) tried to schedule replacement for the wife. 3 --MONTH-- backlog. went local.
2) tried to schedule for my Raptor. called, confirmed they had the windshield, showed up and guess what? They didn't. went local.
3) the last time, Raptor again, this time they did have the glass, so I got a 9am appointment. I came by at 3PM to find they hadn't even moved my truck. After some cajoling, they move me in front of the people who "just showed up". about 5PM they come out and tell me I'll have to pick up the truck tomorrow. Their calibration camera calibration machine was down. After some discussion they reevaluate and miraculously, now their calibration machine does work. Finally about 5:45 I'm on my way.
It was not as simple as that, and like I said, will be the last time.

Local businesses tend to now want to disappoint customers.
They replace wives? Awesome. where's the showroom?
(He said bravely, knowing my wife won't read this)

I had two windshield claims with my insurance, around $3k each (for a bmw) and my rate has not changed at all.

this is Brooklyn NY in case that matters.

The people from Arizona are laughing their asses off at the drama of the OPs post. 🤣

You don't need to have your windshield replaced over that. Get the chip repair and call it a day.

For what it's worth, even if you have glass coverage, the claims still count. As least they do here is Arizona where rocks chips and crack are a common occurrence.

Good luck. Hopefully the OP wont need therapy.

Even if a glass place says the chip is too large, frequently they will offer to try and fix it anyway, they just cannot guarantee the fix will hold. In my experience, most of those fixes do hold.

As for replacement, every insurance company I've dealt with has stated glass claims may or may not cause premium increases, and refuse to give me a straight answer (even USAA which I am currently with). As others stated earlier, they do track them.

Some states have laws in place stating insurance companies cannot raise rates based on glass only claims. As others said, it used to be the companies were more lenient, but these days, they are looking for any excuse to raise your rates.

Let us know how it goes.

I got a stone peck like that earlier this year. My local glass repair place sent 2 guys over, and they spent about 45 mins doing the resin injection thing Safelight is always advertising about. $75 all up.

Didn't say **** to my insurance company. The peck is invisible from the outside, but I can still see it from inside. The main reason for going this route is to reduce the chance of spider webbing from freezing and warming cycles I'll get this winter.

Good luck with what ever you do.

@AZ_Ryan so it wasn't just me! 😆

Sorry to hear man. I had the same thing happen to mine around 6500 mile mark. Was on the Interstate and out of nowhere a big rock hits the windshield, and since it was in the drivers view, under VA law it must be replaced.

Well with the factory replacement and ADAS calibration it was around $860 at Danny's Glass. Literally took 1 hour 15min in all to do. The plus side to this is that after they replaced the windshield, the rearview mirror rattle/noise at high speeds was completely eliminated.

In my '12 had this happen near rearview mirror area, had a simple repair done, and it held up just fine. Even under 2 12's pounding the windshield for years.

Personally, I would rather have a car without all these sensors and computers. I think cars used to be funner. Just because they may be faster today, doesn't make them funner. Thank you to our all so holy government. If you don't believe it, just ask one of them.

Luckily they don't here, considering that I'm sure the Roading agency has shares in auto glass supply. Free window glass all day long.

Never in my life have I had a chipped windshield! This happened randomly tonight on the freeway with no truck or construction vehicle in front of me. It's about the size of a penny.

Going to try to go through Safelite, but if it's still visible I may replace through Ford.

Thoughts on going through insurance? The repair will be free but I will have to pay the $500 for a replacement and I would only replace OEM through Ford. I'm worried that my premium will go up now that Id have a claim on my record.

I had the $0 glass deductible through progressive when I had my model 3 performance. The roof glass got cracked. I paid nothing for the $2600 replacement glass and in the 1.5 years since I had the work done my rates have dropped twice. Good luck!

Long Island NY which is where I live is the home of the 18/22 wheeler sandbox trucks and the rocks and debris fly everywhere. Honestly I have traveled all over the USA on biz and I have never visited a place that had more trucks on the road than Long Island NY. I think I live where they nest !! Wifey's 2024 VW Atlas is known for cheap glass. One week into it and we had a chip. Sucks...

It may be in my head, but I swear the Mustang glass is among the softer/less resilient windshield glass I've owned.

I did have a chip and had it repaired quickly--out of pocket just to not deal with insurance. I don't see it anymore and it was certainly in an inconvenient place. I have two other really, really tiny chips. One manages to leave a water stain.

I'm sure by end of winter I'll have to put on some glass. I'm not going to bother stacking claims until I have to. I'd repair it and wait for the next one which may be the condemning chip--and one less claim. But that's just me.

I already have one not-at-fault claim on my insurance (not Mustang) this year and I'm trying to lie low. My insurer didn't pay a loss and that shows on the loss report but I'm still taking precautions. Insurance is high enough.

A comprehensive claim SHOULD not impact your premium. Colorado is really bad for windshield chips/cracks! I just got my first paint chip on the top of my front fender today. Comes with the enjoyment of driving it a lot!
That’s what they all say. But it will.

Had a comprehensive claim for hail and a windshield in 2022… next renewal my insurance doubled.

800 Credit; No accidents or tickets.

it WILL go up. Any excuse will trigger it.
