On the freeway after work and cought a rock the size of a golfball on the center of my hood. Now im looking at removal of the PPF, dent repair, possibility chip repair, and PPF replication. Oh and it bounced into the windshield and chipped it too.

The only good news is my PPF guy thinks the film held up and the paint is OK. He says the center chip areas are the bottom adhisive layer of the PPF. Im hopeing at worst a buff to the clear is all it will need.

The joys of living in Arizona and constant road construction. 😫🤬

That sucks. Whenever I take the highway I try to stay far away from cars and trucks to avoid issues like this. But sometimes is just not preventable. Hope you get it fixed and looking new again.

Why didn't you swerve out of the way? .5 seconds is enough time for a Mustang driver!:wink: I had a chunk of road debris smash in the grill of my GTO a few years ago. I didn't even see if bounce up and hit it, but heard it happen and saw the damage when I got home. Pictures of smashed grill and new SAP grill, of course both grills were swapped out.

Dang I’m sorry to hear that but I know your pain in Washington the powers that be seem to think pouring gravel on the ground is making new roads and as a result you’re constantly taking rocks. When I took delivery of my Dark Horse two weeks back I got a chip on my bumper just from the twenty minute drive home which stung the heart haha. Anyways I hope you’re able to get a successful claim from the trucking company and that you can also find a solid PDR guy, I’ve seen those dudes work some magic and you can’t even tell there was ever damage!

Im sure the peanut gallery will question my evasive driving skill or someother nonsense. So here is a dash cam still photo. I had to slow it down to .25 just to see it. Video shows it came out between the back of his cab and trailer as I was passing. There was less than .5 seconds from it popping up to impact. But thanks to my dash cam I have a video proof and a license plate for a claim against the trucking company.

Should be covered by you comprehensive insurance. I had something similar with my Explorer ST last year.

I don't know the process, but you have pictures so it did happen. I'd love to see the driver and owner held financially accountable, that size rock could be fatal.

I had a similar thing happen to a loaner truck decades ago. It was a truck hauling a backhoe. The truck hit a giant pavement ripple, bounced a rock of similar size off the truck. I was more than 1 car back, I don't remember exactly how far but I saw it dislodge - hey, what's that - oh cr@p - I need to move over - and then it hit.

In my case the rock directly hit the windshield, shattering it. There was a giant divit right in my field of view, and tiny glass shards all over the cab of the truck. I was on my way to return the truck to the dealer when it happened. They took care of the windshield, but it was unnerving.

I would take it to a paint-less dent repair shop first to see if that can solve the hood. The windshield should be replaced if bad enough.

sorry about that happening. definitely sounds about right for Arizona, though; so many people hauling things with no regard for them. landscapers, rock trucks, the lot. i've heard good things about AZ HEAT if you wanna give them a shot

When you encounter a rock hauler or mixer stay well back or pass it like your pants were on fire.

Damn! At least the first impact wasn't in your windshield! Dash cam still was awesome in a dark sort of way!

1999; driving to the grocery store in my '98 Z28; past the 7th hole fairway of the local country club. Golf ball (good velocity--didn't even see it) comes slicing through the bushes lining the road to impact on my hood about 2 feet out directly in front of the drivers position. What a 🤬ing BANG on impact! Perfect hemispherical golf ball sized dent in my hood.

Pulled over and got out; saw the dent and yelled out something very unChristianly! Only to hear the offending golfer yell back "I've got an attorney!" 😆

It was our Village Attorney! 😆

He was really cool about taking care of all my expenses and the body shop did a great job fixing the dent and paint.

Best of luck with yours! 👍

That's tragic. The pain will fade with time.
We used to be hard on insecure loads, a ticket every time. Poeple have died through stuff falling off trailers and such.
I had the same thing happen years ago and was also lucky enough to get the trucks rego. They paid up.
Last weeks trip was a nightmare of road works, queues and crap all over the roads.
It's tough owning a nice car sometimes.

That sucks : (

But yes construction sucks...... I was did a road trip from So Cal to Cave Creek a few weeks ago (sorry @roket I was going to hit you up but the weather sucked every time I was free)

Because the weather sucked- I drove the truck.....was so happy I didnt take the 350 after all .....the 10 was a mess with construction....construction everywhere........

The wifes Explorer just got the exact same dent and windshield damage here in So Cal last week.....but no PPF to save it ....rapid red metallic so the bright silver scratches really pop : (

Maybe its time to bring back the 80s bras lol

So heres the update. So far the paintless dent guys won't touch it until I get the PPF taken off. I have then scheduled soon. Im really bummed because that means im going to lose the hood graphics I put on.

Today I finally was able to get a hold of state police and they looked up the truck and gave me the company's name and location. They recommended I go in person and exchange insurance info and or try to work something out on the side. If they dont cooperate then I can file a police report.

I dont know that I'll have time tomorrow, but obviously I cant start the repair until they at least see the car. So frustrating.
