Costco is also top tier. If I used the membership for nothing else, I still save more than $900 per year buying 93 there over Shell. The Shell rewards thing requires you to agree to far too much personal tracking information that they can use for any reason, including selling it. So, I'll pay the 15c per gallon when I have to use them, but no way I'll give them all that tracking info.

As per Gas Buddy in Myrtle Beach, SC today.

Shell 87 - $2.65.9
Shell 93 - $3.49.9

Costco 87 - $2.58.9
Costco 93 - $3.02.9

So for me $0.47 a gallon to go to Costco.
Yep. Not quite as big a savings as I get near me, but still well worth the membership.

Maybe the pump feels sorry for a 75-year old man standing in front of it looking dazed and confused. 🤔
As a 74 year old guy myself I can empathize!

Maybe if they didn’t put 17 fuel choices on the same damn pump, replete with flashing LEDs, way too many payment choices and an infotainment screen yelling at you it would be a little more intuitive.

There are a lot of things about the “old days” I miss…

87 will work 100% fine, but i recommend getting 91 or 93. it will give it more power, produce less soot, and might even give you slightly better fuel economy (i gained 20 miles per tank when switching from 87 to 91). if you have a place with race fuel, i think anything above 95 is pretty worthless without a tune

Mine just comes up at the pump, if that's what you're referring to. Asks me if I want 15 cents off per gallon when I put my Shell card in.
OK. I just joined. We'll see how it works. Sad thing is that if I was to pay cash instead of using my card, I'd save more money - even at the Platinum level.

Thanks for the info. My WRX (turbo) requires 93 and the extra 30 cents per gallon over regular hits the wallet pretty hard. That said, I get around 22 mpg in town. The Pony will get a lot less. Fortunately, I am retired and drive less than 5,000 miles per year.
I'm averaging almost 21 mpg using 93 around town. Better than i hoped but I don't drive it much. With the high compression, I'd advise 93, even if 87 is 'acceptable'.

Glad to hear 21 around town. That's close to what I get with my current WRX. Based on feedback, 93 Octane has been decided.

Damn we are still close to $5 per gallon for 91, some stations are $6.

Ford recommends 87. It's in the owner's manual.

I do get a little better gas mileage with 93 so I mix it up. I would stay on 93 but it's over 40 cents more than 87.
