How old were you when you started driving?Always lots of oil experts here. I follow service intervals specified by the manufacturer, and have never had an oil-related problem in 65+ years of driving.
Fat finger problem...I should have keyed in 5W 30. Sorry about that. The manual calls for 5w-30, API SP/ILSAC GF-6A spec oil to among other things reduce the incidence of LSPI. The only official change I know of is Whipple recommends 5w-50.
So why 10w-30 with an oil that is higher in Zinc/Phosphorous (which can cause catalytic converter issues) and specifically states "is recommended for vehicles no longer under manufacturer warranty"?
Nine, but licensed at sixteen. How old were you when you started driving?
not really. Oil analysis on full synthetic on my car says at 5k the viscosity is under 30w because of the heat these new mustangs generate. Running it to 10k would be a stressing the oil.If you're driving 6K between oil changes every 6 months, you're definitely leaving a lot of oil life on the table, and wasting money -- especially if you're using full synthetic.
Yes, yes, it's your money and your car, so do as you please, but you're not doing anything more for your Mustang than if you were to just change it once a year with that kind of mileage.
Send a sample off to Blackstone Labs the first few times you change your oil (take the sample mid-drain). They will analyze the oil and tell you if you should be extending your oil drain interval. They will send you the test sample kits (for collection) for free.
