Have you tried double tapping the gas pedal?

This would be good for ones that don't have paddles. I just hit the left paddle twice going to pass and ease down with the right foot. This gives more control rather than just flooring it.

Had my car two years and still learning new things about it. Thanks for the tip!

I tried this out this afternoon in normal and track modes, and for the most part couldn’t get consistent results but I would say the following:

- in normal and track mode a single quick tap on the accelerator dropped one gear fairly consistently.

- in track mode double press did not react (other than to make the car accelerate twice as you would usually expect)

- in normal mode the response was more varied: occasionally it would do nothing, other times I saw a 3 gear drop (I have continuous gear display on) and the most I saw was a drop from 10th to 5th! Based on this I’d say it’s likely dropping to a gear that puts you into a certain RPM range rather than dropping a set number of gears.

Will continue to play with it this week.

Thanks for the report Sprite!! I also noticed less of a result in Track mode but didn't explore it as much as you did. I think because Track mode is designed to hold a gear longer under acceleration to begin with?

I am amazed at how few people know this (including me until 2 days ago) and there's no mention of this feature in the manual. I really was bracing myself for a ton of replies saying "No sh!t"....lol.

Makes me wonder if this is considered an Easter Egg like the hidden horsies around the car. Is the double tap really a "Giddy Up"?!?! šŸ¤”

I expect in track mode it’s more to do with the car being set to behave in a predictable and expected manner to the inputs you’re giving it.

The other way to quickly drop 3 or more gears is to simply depress the fun pedal all the way to the floor 😜 I much prefer that method.

I'm not much surprised by this behavior.

on the street, just rolling around in normal drive mode with your adaptive learning config'd for max compliance with Ford's EPA & CAFE overlords, the car wants to stay in an economic, low emission cruises.

If you just press the pedal gently, you may get a downshift in normal, maybe 2 gears in sport- you can stab the brakes gently on the highway in sport and she should immediately match the gears to what' is likely to happen. Anyway, back to normal, just pressing on the gas commands a change to respond to the increased throttle requested. Letting off and reengaging the throttle likely prompts the programming to anticipate more aggressive and frequent throttle changes, which a lower than 'most economical' is better suited to.

I'm glad for all you "just press the pedal further" / pin it / firewall it / stand on it crowd. You can't do that with a whipple ( and live ). Even at part throttle passing my PS4S are harmoniously singing the blues and pleading for mercy, BB shaking her rear while she struts on past whatever slow mover we're putting behind us. It's exhilarating and a bit frightening at the same time.

yeah, I know...

I read about this adaptive learning with the 10R80 today, it seems unhelpful to me - some days I might want to drive calmly, other days more sprited, how does it decide how I want to drive? Might try clearing the adaptive table and switching this off next time I’m using FORScan, hadn’t realised it was there before. Presumably the adaptive learning doesn’t apply to Track modes?
