You've got a good friend and a fine opportunity. Nice! For me, though, with no ASE certified friends, and given that the number of boosted car problems I've had throughout my life is zero, I find the risk vs reward acceptable.Which is perfectly fine until that "what's necessary to fix it" costs you more than what it would have cost to have an ASE certified technician install it.
I've been wrenching since the early 1980s. I'm sure I could install this myself. However, I have a good friend who is an ASE certified technician. I'd pay him (likely less than the $2K) to install it (or help), and keep my warranties intact.
