I entered the vehicle and tried to start it manually. It didn't even try to crank. Just the accessories came on with a bunch of warning messages.

The include the following messages:
1. Memory recall not permitted while driving
2. Lane-Keeping System Off
3. Service AdvanceTrac
4. Service Vehicle Soon
5. Full Accessory Power active

waited a hour and the car started, with a check engine light
drove to dealer check engine went out and showed no codes
this seems to have been a problem for all of the mustangs
just got off the phone with ford they do not seem willing to admit an issue or fix it
I wonder where I will be stranded next?

update: spent more time on phone with Ford, in a nutshell Ford will not pay dealer to work on problem unless a computer code and my ford pass has a code but the car erased the code so no help
I did find TSB 2024-08-06 which is a reprogram of the ABS module, and should fix the problem, my dealer would not do without code
so I called another dealer and was told the Dark Horse is a specialty vehicle and they would not work on it unless purchased from them

So no help from ford, no help from 2 dealers and now a concern if I'm on a road trip
dealers will just refuse to work on a dark horse
Talked to ford about this and they said dealers are independent and its their option if they want to work on cars

so be careful if you decide to buy a dark horse

My observation: If the software is in the process of up dating, it is possible the computer doesn't see the interrupt (computer talk for not seeing an input request). Since it started later, I suspect this was the reason.

Assuming this was the case, give Ford a break! They're just doing their best to assure our rides don't end up like Chrysler's products under Stellantis!

outlaw, it unfortunately just sounds like the two dealers you contacted just kinda suck. this issue you described perfectly fits a known issue where the solution is an ABS module reprogram, SSM 52716. that second dealer sounds very pretentious and i would recommend staying away from them and discouraging anyone from going there. that policy they have is total nonsense

Keep a 10mm in your center console.

Reset battery connections, go on with your day.
If you want more get a AGM trickle charger while your car is parked.

Next time, take a picture with cell, then video when you start the car. BONUS points if you have FORSCAN, and connect it to pull the codes. There are transient codes, but if you see the CEL, it’s almost certain a DTC was set.

waited a hour and the car started, with a check engine light
drove to dealer check engine went out and showed no codes
That does not sound at all right. Instead, it sounds like the Tech cleared the codes. Modern Fords will set DTCs at the drop of a hat. And the car will drop the hat. Most of us and most techs absolutely HATE networking problems.

Ford will not pay dealer to work on problem unless a computer code and my ford pass has a code but the car erased the code so no help
So, let me see if I have this straight, if you have a transmission problem and the car won’t go into drive or reverse, but no codes, they don’t have to fix it?

Not just no. HELL NO!
That is a LAZY dealer and tech if that’s the answer you get.

I called another dealer and was told the Dark Horse is a specialty vehicle and they would not work on it unless purchased from them
While the MDH is an allocation vehicle it is __NOT__ a Ford Performance vehicle. lazy jerks. Do better next time.

Damn.

Reading stuff like this makes me really consider my upcoming decision to pick up my GT or not. Afraid of having issues with it and getting this type of support from Ford or the dealer.

After the last OTA update 10/10/24 which happened while the car was parked and I was eating dinner out, I came back to a screen that said "update completed" or something similar. I was surprised. So Sync would not recognize my iPhone/Car Play, I just left it alone overnight and it was fine in the morning. I suspect it was just churning away applying the update under the covers so to speak.

And it's not just Ford. Wife's 24 VW Atlas did an OTA update the other day. She drove it about 2 miles and the display was totally scrambled. Same thing, left car over night and it sorted itself.

Software updates, even direct connected ones ie:USB key or other media, are not perfect.

Report all of them go in for service and once it is back if the issue still persist keep going back. if it goes back in for four times within 30 months in most states for the same issue then you can opt for lemon law

I have documented diligently, so appreciate your information
I'm hoping it was a software update that got caught in the middle, ford pass show an update the day before
my frustration is the ford dealer should know if this is an issue and let the customer know to track and see if it corrects itself

A lot of truth there. I will add that ideally, things will improve over time, but not always.
Sometimes things get worse, and they throw patch after patch until they have time to redesign.

Devs working on sync4 are almost certainly working on the next version. They’re not just sitting around waiting for sync4 problems to fix. Sometime between the 2-3 year mark for sync, you can expect no further enhancements or bug fixes as they focus on the new version. Generally speaking.

One last thing on the updates, OTA or otherwise. Just because the screen says the update is completed, doesn’t mean it’s fully installed / committed. There may well be asynchronous processes going on in the background that could require a full ignition cycle to commit. Like FORSCAN updates in a way.

Report all of them go in for service and once it is back if the issue still persist keep going back. if it goes back in for four times within 30 months in most states for the same issue then you can opt for lemon law
It sounds easy when you type it up in 2 sentences that takes 10 seconds to read. In reality a lemon lawsuit will take 3-18 MONTHS to resolve AFTER filing. It’s a drain on you, your time, your money and success is not guaranteed, especially if you are still able to drive it.

Your best bet is to work with a good dealer service department and drive the issue to resolution.

We’re all here because we love Mustangs, not lawyers, depositions and court rooms.

I went through two lemon laws in the last one year, One with Ford for a Mach E, and one with Rivian for an R1S, it was the duration of the time to process from raising a request to receiving payment was about 2 months in both cases. Most of the time was just processing, my action were less, since i made sure to document all issues in the service requests and keep a record. Might have got lucky, but its better to get into that direction, along with back to back repairs if issue is not solved, to have it in the mind that is an option. Just because the process might be tough does not mean you should not consider it. You only need a lawyer if you feel you are not being provided a good option for replacement or buy back. If its going to take long, you are just as much suffering with all the issues in the car. The law exists for a reason.

Don't let others on this forum make your decisions.
I have not had any problems with my 24' GT even after software updates and I mean zero, my buddy has a 24' Dark Horse with almost 20k on the odo and he has not had any issues with throwing codes or other problems after updates either.
Remember that people who are having no problems don't post and rant about it 😉
