I know changing the oil in a new car may seem redundant, but for peace of mind, and coming straight from factory, it’s nice knowing that I have a full 10qt in the engine.

I did a 1k mile change and it was quite simple, although oil filter was in precarious spot behind splash pad, but only a few bolts to take off the pad…

Love the car so far, drives like a champ!

Cheap peace of mind. Certainly no harm.

Honestly, 1K seems reasonable to me. For new (soon to be the last) Camaros, GM recommends a change at 500 miles (some dealers even do that first change free).

Many perform their first at 1000 mi / 1600 km. It's officially broken-in then. Something of a milestone and celebration.

I believe it's also practical. Not only is there a certain amount of machining trash left over from the factory build, the engine internals are shedding the most materials during break-in (IMO). It's a step towards goodness not only to drain as much of the physical material as you can, but give the initial oil filter a high-five, then replace it.

From their testing, Blackstone sees something of a flushing effect on any new engine during the first one-to-three oil changes.

Hit 1k today, as I was banging paddles on the "Diamond Back" NC 226A.

First oil change coming soon.

Do they still use an undersized FoMoCo initial factory filter like they did for the S550 (pic below)?

That looks like the one that was on from the factory. I used a FL500s which is bigger but what the manual calls for i think.

I just got done with the first oil change on my Dark Horse. 1300 miles. What a huge pain in the ass. Ford did not make it easy! The whole under pan has to come off to get to the oil filter. And the strakes have to come half way off to get the pan off. 17 7mm screws and 5 plastic retainers. The 2 big ones in the middle will brake, so be prepared with replacements. Once it's off, then it's pretty easy, but then it all has to go back on.

Oil plug was not that tight.

The pan that I had to remove was full of rocks. And I have been very careful keeping it out of gravel. The rails behind the front tires were full of rocks. And the hard plastic pan under the radiator toward the front was full of rocks. I think I spent more time getting stones out than changing the oil. It drove me nuts.

Another observation...there were some tiny stones stuck in the soft tires. I haven't drove it in 2 weeks. I picked them out and they left disturbingly deep divots.

Anyone else change their DH oil yet?

Mine isn’t a dark horse but yea that panel was crazy. Other than that it was easy. Not that that wasn’t just tedious. I didn’t an didn’t plan on replacing those two plastic push pins that break. It ain’t going nowhere with the screws and the two pins that the middle pops out of. I didn’t have rocks anywhere.

It's the HP tires. They are rock collectors.
