How often do you have passengers in the backseat?

Weighing my options between a S550 Mach 1 and an S650 Dark Horse, I wonder how much people will hate the backseat. I do have some friends on the shorter side, seems like around 5'8" or so is when peoples' heads start touching the headliner?

Nobody wants to use the HOUDINI seats.

I'm 6'6" and have had two teenage girls (both about 5'7") in the back. They had the chouice of riding in an SUV or the back of our convertible. Drive to cottage top down drive home top up. Their heads did not touch the top. They had enough leg room (they said) . The boss was ok in the front, I was a bit cramped but the Mustang has enormous room under the dash so not too bad for a hundred miles. Doing it daily, not so good.

Convertibles have more head room with the top up. And they're also way easier to get in and out of with the top down. Its not really a fair comparison to the hardtop. Also the OP is not considering a convertible since neither the M1 or DH are available in that configuration.

My wife rode in the back seat of my S550 one time about 5-6 years ago. We picked up her brother who was visiting our area on business. She is 5'5" and said seat comfort and head room were better than she expected. BUT her brother (who is 5'9") had to move the seat up a lot to give her enough leg room, which made him pretty uncomfortable. I think she was more comfortable than he was. Good thing it was a very short ride from his hotel to dinner.

I don't use the back seats but it's still nice to have the additional storage space compared to a 2-seater.

It's alright, hopefully this can serve as a future resource to people shopping around in the future. I tried searching but kinda wanted a direct comparison especially with the M1 and DH being fundamentally similar trims.

The reason I got a 2+2 was because I occasionally need the rear seats which a 2 seater cannot do.

The 'above posts' confirm that for occasional use less than 5'8" is fine. In fact I had somebody about 5'6" in the back of mine for 4 hours once and they said it was perfectly comfortable.

That is why it is called a 2+2 and not a 2!

Especially this part about someone 5'6" managing to be comfortable back there for hours. I really like the S650 (particularly the DH) but if I am going to open up to the idea of strictly 2-seaters then I'm going to be considering cars I previously hadn't.

I actually got the Mustang over the Corvette because of the backseat (please don’t kill me!). My wanted to have the option “in case” to have our family in one car, and we had a few cases where it came in handy.

My middle kid (m12) was disappointed we didn’t get the Corvette but the cold start in front of his school made him appreciate the Mustang lol

I didn't get my '25 DH to put passengers in the back seat. I'm 6'0" and I'm basically back where there's about 3" between my seat back and the rear seat. I got it for the potential. I put on a Whipple at 500 miles. I wanted a quick car that pulls like crazy.

To be fair, just because the Mustang back seats don't fit most full sized adults, doesnt mean they aren't useful. Having behind the seat storage for a backpack, jacket, bag of groceries, or small pet is way more convenient than a two seater.

MAT1955 ..... I suggest you read the comments from other posters citing space in convertibles on this thread, likely as a baseline or potential alternative - although I guess I should be flattered that you seem to find all of my posts so fascinating that you seem compelled to respond.

You can fit in 2.4m length wood with the seats down - I know because I have done it!

I use my DH as a daily driver, usually drop the kids off at school in the morning. I’m a tall guy and the back seat is fine for kids - I do ride closer to the steering wheel when one is behind me though. There’s definitely a sweet spot though - younger -5yo in a booster seat will have feet up against the seat in front whereas 8+ and their legs are long enough to reach the floor (less space needed to accommodate the legs than a pair of feet!).

Being able to fit kids in the back was essential for me so that this didn’t become a weekend-only car.

The backseats are nice to have. 3 can fit pretty comfortably. When you have 4, the driver loses leg room, which could be problematic, but I've gone on several road trips and managed.

Never. I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy! It works great for my dog , though. She rests her head on the center console. Perfect!
