Ungoverned top speeds

The top-speed governor is set at 155 mph in the Mustang GT and 168 mph in the Dark Horse. With previous generations of Mustangs, the top-speed governor could be disabled with a custom tune, but I haven't heard anything about that for the S650. Has anybody read anything about this possibility? It's not that I plan on getting a custom tune when the glorious day comes that I buy a new Mustang GT. I'm just curious what the unshackled top speed is for these cars.

I can't speak for the GT, but it does on an Eco-Boost.

Yes you can disable the top speed governor, Im curious about this too. I dont know from experience but im pretty sure it can be done.

The Pirelli Trofeo RS is rated for 186 mph, so why limit the Dark Horse to 168 mph?

Hmm...I thought the DH was limited to 155 as well. This news of a 168mph limit all of a sudden makes me want to go verify!

I don't remember which website I got the numbers from, but I made notes at the time that it was 155 for the GT and 168 for the Dark Horse.

I believe the tuned S550s got into the low 160s with the limiter turned off. They were also capped at 155 from the factory. Obviously weight and aero limit these cars. I doubt the S650 would get much higher.

Well as for me. I have 24 DH. I wanted to know how fast if I put a whipple on it. The dealer told me almost 200mph. That was a Friday. The following Monday I called Detroit (Ford Performance) his answer yes you guessed it almost 200.
So Stage 1 (now it's a Stage 2) installed out on a country road i was just playing around looked at odometer 167 and climbing. Not sure about 200 but it will do 188 if they claim it. With mine being Stage 2 now I probably won't find out top speed, but there is a big enough difference between the 2 stages. It's a blast to drive especially when you get challenged. Those Demon 170s guys have watched a lot of DH tail lights. 3-0 against 2 different cars.

2024 Mustang DH -Ford spec is 164mph or 263Km

Auto DH/PP is 155 and normal auto GT is 145. I have all three tune files sitting here for all three as 2026 modes. Also this is 10 speed cars. I have a manual DH as well, and that one shows 166mph.
