I think it's important to look outside of the Mustang world at the car market. Prices have absolutely skyrocketed since the pandemic and haven't recovered.

It's frustrating to read 'but this Mustang GT was $40k a few years back and now it's pushing $60k'. All true, but again, look around you. What car is available for $30k or $40k? The ecoboost continues to be excellent value (in my opinion) and the V8 options are at least still available.

Pricing will probably be flat for the new few years, even with the s750 release. To me, both the ecoboost and GTs are excellent value whereas the DH is overpriced but that's the price (no pun intended) you'll pay for a more limited edition.

I think, just my opinion, if I were going to spend ~$100k on a "fun" car right now it would absolutely NOT be a mustang. For $120k you could get a nice (c7) Corvette zr1 that will keep or go up in value if taken care of. I mean there are 20 year old Ferrari 360's that still sell for over $120k that are... well Ferrari's. 13 year old McLaren mp4-12c's that are practically new for the same price. Lamborghini Gallardo's.. Sure insurance might be outrageous for those examples, and maintenance? Probably crazy. But if you have $100-150k to spend, why not get something special that won't drop half its value in 5 years. I could just be biased because my parents were pretty cool and got me a turbo supra that would have been worth 4-5 times what they paid for it if I had kept it. Mind you other kids got Hummer H2s, bmws, clapped out turbo diesels that cost 2 or 3x what the supra was then that aren't worth shit now.

One last thing, how can Nissan GTRs have turbo v6's that don't sound stupid make that power? Or the new Ford Gt's.

If they hadn't called the v6's "EcoBoost" and called them something cool that pumped out 500 hp reliably AND saved weight AND was cheaper i would have gotten that.

Then again ask anyone with an F150 with an EcoBoost "is that the one with the V6?" And count how many milliseconds it takes for them to respond "twin turbo!".
What this has to do with the original question I don't know. I'm going to blame it on the time change

I purchased my first mustang in April 1964. Carney yellow, 289 hp, no a/c only radio/heater hard top 3 speed. Cost approx. $2,890.00. This car turned heads everywhere I drove. Most recent GT I purchased(in picture) 2025 premium @ cost of approx. $56,000 but I can't place a value on the enjoyment of driving this new GT after 60 years of buying one of the first to be built. I am now 81 years old but going on 19 again when driving new GT. Liked it so much I purchased another.

I think the S550 generation was a good value proposition and that's where I see the Mustang outshine everything else.

So for me a fully loaded GT was around 50 in 2020 and should be $59k now because inflation is a thing. However, the S650 doesn't justify any price hike by itself. It offers zero additional value outside the digital dash, which, quite frankly is the basic option already in much cheaper cars. Every Chinese and almost every European car is equipped with it so Ford shouldn't charged extra for it. Besides, it's cheaper to produce.

For me, 59 for a loaded GT with a Tremec would be a reasonable price. The DarkHorse simply shouldn't exist in its current form and should either be more powerful and have a more unique interior or it should be the regular GT version.

Regarding the SC version... I would price that at around $85k, some $10k over a base 2020 GT500 sticker. It's a Shelby GT500 without licensing fees.

At current sticker prices the Mustang is simply a terrible value proposition. In Germany the regular GT starts at 60.000€ and a loaded DH is 80.050€. I can buy a new M3/4 for around 75000€ that is much much quicker and has a much nicer interior. Whoever picks any Mustang over the BMW is not interested in performance or build quality but rather (life)style and the feeling you get while driving a Mustang on German roads.
However, the GT can be had for 50000€, which is a much better value proposition and the M car would most likely require some options pushing the price north of 80k€.

There are a few things more important than just the "price" of the vehicle. As a general rule, performance vehicles cost more to insure.

After I had purchased my 2024 Eco-Boost, I ask my agent (State Farm) how much more would I pay for a GT or Dark Horse? I don't remember the individual costs, but the DH was almost exactly twice the Eco-Boost.

My dealer charges me just over $110 for an oil change. A GT is $35 more, and the DH $50 more. I suspect the quantity of oil is part of the cost. And I also assume (?) removing the underbody panel is more difficult on V8 models.

I needn't mention the cost of a new of tires!

I forgot something. My neighbor has a MB Sprinter van conversion. An oil change is ≈$350!

We are seeing numerous variants of $100K++ (on the low end) of Mustang variants being pumped out…

Now I’m curious, at what price does the Mustang (for you) start to make no sense?

I love the Mustang, but seeing repeated $150K+ variants is just asinine IMO. For me, 100K would be the absolute upper limit for a Mustang, frankly 70K is pretty high for a Mustang! But what do you guys think?
I have a DH blue ember with Recarro seats, appearance package and it cost me £72,000 (96,500 us dollars)
Currently 200miles done

My insurance (Geico) didn’t upcharge for a GT or DH. I priced out both before getting the car.

For the oil change: the GT and DH uses fully synthetic so that’s more expensive. Not sure why the DH is more expensive though.

That's easy.

My dealer had my GT and a DH sitting on their lot. $57,500 MSRP for my GT and $75 K + MSRP for the DH. I manage my retirement budget quite fiercely; so my absolute monthly payment ceiling was no more than twice what my monthly payment on my Focus RS had been. And, no more than a 10-15% increase in insurance premium (I was/am surprised it ended up only being about a 7% increase!)

I own the GT.

You are buying a Mustang for the feeling you get - sound and fury. I have owned an Austin Healey 3000L, a Porshe, Supra Turbo and an XKE. NONE of them were as much fun to drive as my 2024 GT ( I am now awaiting the delivery of a 2026 GT that is in transit to the dealer) the XKE may have been close, fun and fury wise - when - it started..... and I never would have attempted a real long drive with it. People who want a Mustang want it for exactly what it is. People who question the price or compare it to some slick Euro car don't get it and likely never will. Not that I'm overly vain but you notice these things - if I'm at a red light with some bmw etc. etc. etc. Guess which car the other drivers are looking at? Guess who gets asked questions (can you flip the hood?) when at a mall or coffee shop? You want the Mustang pay the money. Has been always will be.

In the case of the Mustang 6G crew, they do have some good points. I owned a 2020 BULLITT. It had all the options but RECARO. It was around $53K. I now own a 2024 GT Premium. It was $56.3 K. Honestly, bang for buck, the BULLITT was a way better car and is still worth as much as my 2024. CARVANA says my car with 1600 miles is worth $43.6 K.
The S 650 used prices will drop like a rock. People know that when the warranty is up cost of repairs will be crazy. IMHO, with all the over the air updates, FORD will get the bright idea to charge you for updates just like the $750 for their NAV after a year. These are not cars that people will keep for 20 years. Look at the 2007 thru 2014 Shelby GT 500's. If a main computer module goes, Ford no longer makes them. Some can't be repaired. Good luck with body parts also. I enjoy my Mustang. Like many, it's an obsession with cars. The new Mustang is a lose, lose situation while you are getting a not so cheap thrill!!

The car I was going to order, a Cupra Formentor VZ, is now $NZ110 specced how I want it, similar to Mustang GTPP spec. That's up from the $NZ80k I paid 4 years ago for my Cupra Ateca (same spec).
A Formentor VZ5, basically an Audi RS3 in a different dress, will be around $NZ130K.
That's how much the market has moved in 3 years.
It also makes the Mustang a bargain here at $NZ93,000, or $NZ115k ish for a DH.

@armyGT ..... not so fast, brother. I got an amazing trade fro my 2024 GT on a 2026 GT and that dealer is known for a sharp pencil deal making wise and business wise. They gave me a great trade-in price because I have maintained my GT well and they know they can sell it soon after it hits the lot. There is always a solid market for Mustangs that weren't heavily modded or whipped to within a hair of their lives. If you maintain your Mustang well and don't flog the $hit out of it it will sell fast at a decent price. There is no bull$hit anymore - one plug-in of a reader and the entire vehicle's life is exposed. The salesman I first talked to about ordering my 2026 asked how I treated it. I said, don't waste our time with that question. Here is my VIN run it and go to OASIS then call me back. I knew he'd see my maintaince records (full synthetic changed earlier than FORD guidelines, engine air filters cahnged earlier than Ford specified and of course, the RPM etc. profiles of it. 30 minutes later he called back. He said, we are very interested. He came within $500 of what I thought would be the top end of a trade-in price. Treat it right and the Mustang will hold it's price with the best.
