At what price does the Mustang start to make no sense?

We are seeing numerous variants of $100K++ (on the low end) of Mustang variants being pumped out…

Now I’m curious, at what price does the Mustang (for you) start to make no sense?

I love the Mustang, but seeing repeated $150K+ variants is just asinine IMO. For me, 100K would be the absolute upper limit for a Mustang, frankly 70K is pretty high for a Mustang! But what do you guys think?

For me personally i think fully loaded non premium gt plus supercharger and then some aftermarket mods. So like 75k if we are talking new. But in few years who knows maybe that number will change for me too.

Im not sure the price can ever make sense. I think it's more about how much your willing to spend for something you dont need but really want. For that kinda thing if it makes you happy and your not in putting yourself in dire straights then maybe there's no limit or a sense that you can apply to an enjoyment. So I just try to enjoy it if you will.

Well, if we believe the 6G die hards, the Dark Horse has zero collectible value and next to zero resale value, so in 2028 we should be able to pick up a DHSC track pack for about $85k gently used.

You can already crack high 70's - lower 80's with the current MY Dark Horse, so 100k for the base DHSC isn't far off base - yes, it's high by about 10k but it's in the ball park.

The other 2 variants are grotesquely overpriced and I'm thinking they will see limited numbers produced, possibly by order only so they don't embarrassingly sit on dealer lots unloved for months on end.

Exactly, and honestly if i could get gtd right now i would. Its same when people tell me u pay so much for gas, but im not paying for gas, im paying for enjoyment, happiness, fun and for something i love

The vast majority on this Mustang site are GT owners. A few, like your truly, own and appreciate the Eco-Boost, especially in its current form. Hovering around a $40K starting price, it still has the Mustang feel and presentation. Admittedly, it isn't the visceral sound and roar of the GT, but it wasn't meant to be. All this said, the Mustang, model for model, is on par with other equally performing models and brands.

A Mustang GT with all options should be no more than $60k imo. My fully loaded 2020 GT with all the bells and whistles possible had a sticker price of $55k new, and current models AT BEST offer $5k worth of upgrades. I understand inflation raises the price of everything, but the Mustang GTs I see on dealership lots going for $65-70k is just asinine, not to mention Dark Horses at $100k+. They're out of their minds. I just don't see the value anymore.

I believe a GT.. fully loaded, should be 60k .. It stops making sense after 75k unless it's truly a collectible car. Afterall, it IS just a mustang.
The GTs/GT40s were ones I could understand. The GTD? Super cool, would love to own, not at 300k.
Anything over 100k I just sigh and know ill never have a chance lol and I paid 66? for my DH... which I think it still too much, but it at least is semi collectible with serialized builds.

So, I'm a 6G'er Mach 1 owner (be kind to me I come in peace). There is quite a bit of dialogue going on in 6G land about the DHSC and its cost/trim levels. No, it is not a Shelby although it appears that it performs around that level. I am taking the perspective that any DH trim gives the owner a great performance vehicle. Especially with the Camaro being discontinued and the Dodge Charger being brought back as a V6 albeit at plus 500 horsepower. My personal experience with a Charger is that it is fun in a straight line but turn the wheel and.... meh...

But I think the days of a V8 Mustang being "affordable" is a thing of the past as even a gently used base '24 or '25 Dark Horse is mid $60k and a used DH with the handling package is in the $70k range and when I see the handling package DH in the low $60k range I figure it was ridden hard hence the lower price.

Fun fact; so I had a 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack. It replaced my 2018 Mustang GT premium. I had the Dodge for 1 year and OMG that sucker drank the gasoline. So, I replaced the Dodge with an upper trim Toyota pickup truck. That didn't last long (borrringgg) and I traded that truck in for a base Mach 1. Then I traded that in for my current ride a Mach 1 with the handling package. Since I am in no way ready to go boring again, if I needed to replace my Mach I'd go Mustang again, even at the higher price points. And that is where I think Ford snags its customers. Those of us who just love that Coyote roar and the ability to rip down the straight away and then hit the twisties. Nothing like it and the Ford Mustang delivers whether it is a GT or the DH.

All cars are priced too high right now. But that isn't likely to change. In my younger years, I may have paid anything, now I'm 65 and have to balance my money with other enjoyable fun. Trips with wife, home improvement, general retirement. I just bought a leftover 2025 GT Premium.. About $54k with a few options. No need to chime in that I paid too much, or "I just got the same thing for $41k OTD". It's my first Mustang in 11 years. I love it. But it's not my primary car or what is considered a daily driver. I have a (yikes!) minivan for that. So what I just spent, that's it for me.

I paid $53k for my new GTCS convertible. That is about the max I would consider paying for a Mustang. When I saw the price drop to where I could get it in that range I jumped at the deal. I won’t buy them higher than that.

I myself realize the value in these cars. I have always been a mustang fan but never owned one until I was so impressed by the DH with HP on Charlotte motorspeedway, I ended up buying one. I have been in many other cars on tracks as I live in California and there is no short of iconic track days out here. I will say that I was blown away by this car and unless you have tracked it, you will never understand. Now I didn't buy this at $80,000 as I picked it up with 5000 miles for $58,000 ( 24' DH, HP, PP, Stick, Black ) so I jumped on it. But, if I paid $80,000 for it I would have no regrets so for anyone to say this car should be no more than $50,000 is living in the 90's. It's a version of the mustang but by all means its nothing close to a standard one. So many people stuck on the name weather its mustang, darkhorse, darkhorse SC, Shelby Gt500, call it a Gremlin for all I care this car is awesome. If you think $70,000 is to much for a track based car with a N/A V8, 500 HP in a stick option let's not forget you can pick up a Toyota 4runner TRD pro for $70,000. The SC was always going to be no less than $100,000 for something to come SC and updated everything from what the present darkhorse has already and to think it would be less is crazy talk. If you buy the darkhorse take it to the track and enjoy it and you'll appreciate it more. If you go get groceries in it and complain that its just an overpriced gt, then you made the wrong decision.

My shock item is 2 large blizzards from dairy queen. Used to be $7 for both, now its over $14. And its smaller. At least the mustang didnt suffer from shrinkflation.
