Quiet start? Not really…can it be changed?

Man, this thread really gets me.

I thought you guys in the US are used to this like Burgers with french fries.

I had concerns about my neighbors as well, but since I got only enthusiastic feedbacks about the car and its sound (even from Porsche and Mercedes employees 😁) and I think the others just keep their criticism by themselves, I just take it as it is.

This car has really something magic. Especially here it seems to be a synonym for the good old days.

I felt bad for my neighbors one summer. Two houses down a guy had a Harley and used to let it warm up for ten minutes each time he left and then rip it down the street

I had a loud mustang.

Guy across the street had a Honda motorcycle with aftermarket pipes.

also the neighbor who ran a leafblower for hours per day

You're right. Drive a late model German car here and people think you're an up yourself w⚓.
But you don't seem to get that with US cars down here.
In the 50's US cars were aspirational. As in aspiring to be a farmer because they were the only ones who could buy them.

I tried quiet start for giggles today after reading this thread. It's not as quiet as I expected but is noticeably different than regular. I wouldn't have given it a second thought before this thread. I can't imagine any neighbors complaining over it. 🤷‍♂️

Some neighbours complain if your mouse farts.

No one has complained at this point…..just trying to head things off as the initial explosive start is really something, you know?

Yep, that's why I start with the door closed on early mornings.
I think it's lucky that we seem to have a fairly tolerant group here. As in, my car's a bit loud, but so's your leaf blower.

Yeah but, we've also learned to not s**t where you eat.
Don't piss neighbours off, they can make life unpleasant.
I can make thier life worse. 😏

One thing I've noticed too is make sure you start in normal mode. If you start in a custom mode or something like slippery mode even though they still use "normal" exhaust volume like normal mode it will bypass the quiet start, unless of course you have the quiet exhaust mode started and make sure to manually enable it before start in any mode.

Also not sure how your parking is set up but keeping the garage door closed for the first 30 seconds is a good idea, what I do as I park outside is I keep the tail end of the car pointed away from my immediate neighbors if I can help it too, though no one has complained yet. If you are outside and all the houses are relatively close together perhaps pointing the rear end towards some shrubs or something non-reflective to sound may help as well.

As far as I'm aware the first 30 seconds are unavoidably loud, something about the tune to help heat up the cats fast for emissions. If you've ever started in sport or track mode and started rolling before those 30 seconds are up you'll definitely notice the difference the car sounds like a whole different beast, snarling and roaring on every gear shift. I honestly kinda wish the car sounded like that all the time...
