I have a 24 GT base so the interior is a sea of black which suits me just fine. I'm curious what sprays or cleaners everyone is using on their Mustangs especially with these black interiors? I want something that does a great job of cleaning but doesn't leave the surface shiny or leave greasy streaks behind, etc. Is the 303 Protectant a good option for my use case?

I use Meguiars leather wipes on EVERYTHING.

Because I'd buy a can of them; stash it; then forget I had it, and buy another. I've got 4 cans of the stuff 😵. The neighbors chased me out of their garage when they caught me trying to clean their leather seats for them!

Ingrates!

So your using the leather wipes on all the hard black plastic on the interior of the Mustang? Do they leave any residue?

Yes, I wipe off any excess (on any interior surface; plastic or otherwise) with a microfiber or old terry cloth towel. NPs so far!

Stop by; I'll give you a free can! 👍

Deyon is our resident expert from the land down under. once you go into a thread search for interior and but his member name in.

Bythe way no disrespect to WM, but keep the leather wipes for leather. There are better cleaners for the non leather parts of you interior.

P&S Xpress Interior Cleaner and Koch Chemie Pol Star. Pol Star is expensive but highly dillutable so
I like it more. My go to brands are generally Koch Chemie, P&S, and CarPro for all detailing products.

A couple of products to get you started.......................

Interior Cleaner - I'd dare say most who have a Mustang never get to the point where a full-on interior cleaner is needed, other than periodic leather cleaning. Still worth having though. P&S Xpress and Griots Interior Cleaner leave no residue after use, and certainly don't leave a glossy finish as they are pure cleaners.

Interior Detailer - this is what you would use the most, great for a quick wipe over between more serious cleaning and can be used on leather, plastic, vinyl, screens, or any hard surface. These are what I use after every wash applied into a towel, then wiped over the surfaces I want to refresh. They then flash away leaving no residue, streaking or greasiness, just a matte OEM look.

These also contain some UV protection, so you eliminate having another product to buy and apply such as 303. I've actually stopping using a dedicated interior protectant for this reason. Carpro InnerQD and Armour Detail Supply Pilot are my favorites, but the Megs Quick Interior Detailer is great too. If I was buying right now, it would 100% be Pilot, its so lush.

Leather - I'm pretty anal when it comes to leather because I absolutely detest slick, shiny leather. Clean and protected leather should be matte in finish, dirty leather is in fact shiny, so why people slather leather with oils and greasy lotions is beyond me. You also need products that can actually penetrate the PU (basically clear coat for leather) coating they use on automotive leather and vinyl.

Anyway, this is what I'm using.....................

In your case, clean using P&S Xpress, which is pH neutral and completely safe on leather. I love how it lathers up with agitation, then wipes away clean and clear. Considering you are dealing with brand new leather, I would then treat it with ColourLock Leather Shield. This is used to protect the leather from dye transfer and abrasion while the leather is still "young". After the 3-year mark, you then transition to ColourLock Leather Protector. Even if these two look shiny when first applied, what I love about these products is how the dry to a soft, dry and matte finish. You would reapply either every 6 months or so. Then just maintain with the interior detailer. ColourLock only deal with leather, so they are well honed on the subject. Expensive, but a little goes a long way.

Glass - so many glass cleaners to chose from, Gyeon Q2M Glass Cleaner, Stoner Invisible Glass or P&S True Vue are my picks. All safe for tint. Considering the steep angle of the rear windscreen, you definitely need the Reach and Clean Tool.

What should I use? How should I use it? What should I avoid?

I use a few things on the interior, as needed.

For general-purpose cleaning, any surface, Gyeon Interior Detailer.

https://gyeonusa.com/products/q-m-interior-detailer

To clean leather, Wolfgang. To condition leather, also Wolfgang. I don't have to clean the seats often. I condition the leather, as needed.

https://www.autogeek.net/wolfgang-leather-combo.html

For plastics, rubber and vinyl, CarPro Perl.

https://www.autogeek.net/perl-coat-protectant.html

For glass, either Gyeon clear or Stoner's Invisible Glass.

https://gyeonusa.com/products/q2m-glass

https://stonercarcare.com/collections/glass-cleaner/products/invisible-glass

For application, microfiber only, using seperate color towels for leather/vinyl (yellow) or glass and screens (white).

For exterior rubber and plastics, also Perl, using a dark blue microfiber towel.

For glass, to get into the hard-to-reach areas, I use a wand.

https://www.amazon.com/Glass-Master-Pro-Surface-Cleaner/dp/B072N41WSV

Take a towel, place across the pad of the wand, and use the wand to go across the surface.

As to when to apply, I do all my interior detailing in a closed garage, with low lighting and temperature; it just works better for any of the materials, while keeping dust and dirt contamination to a minimum.

To check results, use a torch. If you think you cleaned your glass well, hold a torch up to it in a low-lit garage to confirm.

Thank you for the detailed and very educational reply. I have a base Mustang GT here in the US w/301A PKG so it just has the cloth interior although the side bolsters are vinyl I believe, hence I do not have leather interior. My question regarding what cleaners to use is in reference to cleaning all the black plastic interior bits (the dashboard, doors, etc - basically a lot of black matte plastic on the base interior). That being said, should I still be looking into an interior cleaner followed by an interior detailer or would an interior detailer do the trick? I see you mentioned that the Meguiar's Interior Detailer Cleaner is a good product as well. My interior stays pretty clean so I really want to just spray something on a microfiber towel and wipe the surface and be done with it - and not have to worry about the product leaving a shiny, oily residue.

If you want something for light maintenance that you can do a quick detail with and still have a matte look, a rinsesless wash like ONR, DIY, or McKees will do the trick as well. You will have to dilute the mixture yourself but it will last you a good while.

One product doesn’t always do it all when cleaning interiors but DFB5.0 and Skye made great recommendations for what to use. Armour Detail Supply has a great line of products and the Pilot interior cleaner is my favorite at the moment.
