Oil catch can on the s650

I thought these cars would come with one especially the performance pack models but that looks not to be the case. How necessary is it to get one? I plan to keep this thing forever and I want to make sure I treat it right from the get-go

One of the reasons catch cans are used, is to lesson the build up of deposits on the back side of the valves (direct injected engines). All of the S650 engines now use both direct and port injections. This keeps the valves clean and allows for better emissions. Yes a catch can will trap both moisture and volatile vapors, so if it makes you warm and fuzzy, do it. But ask yourself why this wasn't an issue until direct injection became the norm?

1. If you look at the high mileage F150's with port+direct, the valves aren't nearly as clean (although, they are still cleaner than DI only engines) as the engines with just port

2. Mustang people were running catch cans before DI engines.

My Focus RS's turbo four banger was GDI only. Several of our forum members reported varying degrees of intake valve carbon build up during engine tear downs. The amount of build up certainly seemed to be mileage related (more miles = more carbon build up).

I took the RS to Livernois Motorsports in May of '22 for a 93 O dyno tune. While there I had them run a can of this

through my intake per instructions (approx 35 K miles on the RS; I was the third owner; no idea what if any carbon build up measures had been taken by the first two owners) and they also installed an oil catch can.

I checked my catch can in March of this year (22 months of PCV oil blow by). There was less than a table spoon of oil in the can.

I plan on running the CRC intake cleaner through my GT's intake once per year, and I will have a catch can installed next year as well.

So you plan to keep this Mustang forever? I’ll give you a little advice, every year Ford makes a better Mustang.

It’s always been an issue ever since the introduction of the pcv, it’s not simply the backside of the valves but the whole intake that gets coated with the fine mist that is.
