Lane keep assist tried to end me

I hate the lane keep assist. It pulled the car back to the lane and made turning almost impossible, as well as merging. I thought I'd like it, but it felt like something was wrong with the car. I turned it off and never turned it on again.

I had rented a Volvo once and drove from Atlanta to Nashville. Going on the mountain roads, I was literally fighting the lane assist. While it was trying to hug the left line of the lane, it felt too close to the rocks for my comfort.

I just traded my '16 GT convertible Performance Package 6mt for a '24 GT Convertible premium package with 20" wheels and still a 6mt. Driving home on Florida's Turnpike was pretty straight, so I didnt have any problems wit the lane assist.

A few days ago I got a nice little message from my car

This appeared at cold start up in the morning. I called my local Ford dealership and they remotely scanned the computer while talking to me. Guy said he saw (I believe) a few sensors throwing minor errors for improper shut down. The evening prior was a non-spirited daily commute drive. Service man said he’s never heard of this service message before. I mentioned to him what I’ve said in this thread, but it’s interesting that weeks after that event I get a notice like this.

I‘m gonna get out on a limb here.

If a person ever turns on lane keep assist for any reason whatsoever (maybe outside of a quick science experiment) they should give serious consideration to public transportation.

FWIW, I got caught up on the firmware updates. I decided to give the Lane Keep Assist feature on during my recent road trip: Brooklyn to Lancaster, PA and back. I gotta say, the feature has gotten a lot better. It hasn't pulled me like it had in the past. It was very precise.

The only thing is that every once in a while it kept telling me to keep my hands on the wheel when it was dark out... that is still an issue. I had my hands on the wheel, but all it needed was a quick left/right gentle turn of the wheel and it was gone.

So overall, works very well now, minus the annoying "keep your hands on the wheel" thing.

I hate lane assist with a passion. When you're driving on a two lane rural road ( like most of our roads) I always approach a corner either on the fog line for righthanders, or next to the centreline for left handers. this gives the best sightline through the corner and sets the car up to clip the apex of the corner to give a wider radius through it. What I don't need is the steering trying to pull the car away from those entry points. It's really bloody dangerous.
I'm sure the Safety clowns that mandated don'r actually drive cars.

Steering assist is something different to LKA.

Same here and I didn't know it had that feature nor did I turn it on. Orginally thought it was the tires.

Right, but they work together when LKA is in use. Those lane position changes LKA automatically executes by applying some steering input is achieved through the steering assist.

No, Steering Assist is an accident mitigation system, nothing to do with lane keeping.

I find it counterintuitive that anyone with a V-8 performance car would leave any driver assist turned on if it could reasonably be disabled. Maybe leave on a little dab of ESC.

If I can turn off the junk and still drive it at 75 I’ll bet you can too!

Or maybe it’s a generational thing and I just need to get over it.

I don't like to self-satisfy or call me a "pilot". I'm a quite skilled driver, with some track experience (actual races, with a bunch of performance cars), I don't race anymore, but my driving is 90% spirited.. plus unfortunately not young anymore ...and guess what, I liked those aids on my S550, and on the S650 it works even better! Sometime (that other 10%) I use em for longer than usual commutes and especially when I'm tired, for a more relaxed driving.
I believe you're confusing a drive assistant (what it does) to "I'm unable to drive, i'm not skilled enough, and I let the car driving myself", it's not.. this is not a Tesla.
The feature is awesome and very useful.. if it wasn't for that "keep your hands on the wheel" appearing when it shouldn't, that is actually my only complaint.

I bought my DH (5k miles) used and didn't know it had all these features and didn't turn any on initially. I obviously don't know how to drive it since a message came up on the dash to "Driver Alert Warning Rest Now". Trust me hands are always on the wheel.
