Just did oil change was wondering if any amount of glitter is good in oil change?

No service records ought from a used car dealer.Records on carfax when I bought it showed roughly 5k oil changes.I might have to try and look the car fax backup but the last oil change was done at a performance shop instead of a ford dealer or an oil change place.Not sure why they would of taken it their.So that has me wondering a few questions.

I saw glitter in every oil change on my new 1980 Corvette, 4 spd. It took 15 years before hearing a tap, and finding my cam and lifters were toast. Took me 5 days to buy and install a mild performance Erson cam. That along with a free flow Cat, the car ran like it should have from Chevrolet.

Send it to Blackstone for an oil analysis. Its really easy.
Kind of wasting money - you can already see
the glitter and oil tests won't detect anything big enough to see (only about ten times smaller if I remember correctly)

It Absolutely will. Blackstones tests are pretty comprehensive.

Im honestly not sure where you are going with this. Just because the OP can see glitter, doesn't mean there isnt other information to be gained on the stuff you cant see. Especially in an engine with 40k on it. Also, the analysis is like $40. Its not a big waste of money and its solid place to start if he's concerned.

From the moment I pick-up the new vehicles I buy (now 4 Mustangs) I keep the revs low (not lugging - just not bouncing off the rev limiter) and vary the revs and mph for the first 500 miles. I'm still very respectful for the next 500 miles then I change the oil (FULL synthetic) and filter. After that I don't mind getting on it once in a while. I have never had a vehicle burn oil or ever had an engine problem related to wear. IMO how an engine is treated for at least the first 500 kiles is critical...... and there should not be a lot of visible "metallics" in your oil unless something has been addeed or is wrong.
This isnt a break-in discussion. The engine has 40k miles on it.

Thanks everyone for the replies.I have blackstone sending me a kit.Since I have already changed the oil how many miles should I put on the new oil before I send it in?Blacktone says to take the sample roughly about half way thru the drain and not to start the car before I take the sample.Also I cut open the oil filter and do not see anything in it at all.
Its a bit of a waste to send in freshly changed oil for analysis. Generally you do this with the old oil after an oil change. Id get at least 1k miles on it before you send it in.

Unless you changed the oil and filter the day you bought it you don’t know what prior owner may have or have not added / used.

Since it sounds like you have a test kit otw, I’d probably be tempted to test what you have, do a fresh change get 15 hundred miles or so and test again. Good luck and unless it starts a knocking pinging or missing, enjoy the sounds of diagnostic research (ie listening to pure unadulterated sounds of a v8).

Thats a little concerning. Maybe contact the performance shop and see if they can provide a service history or any info.

I agree that there is other information, but if he's got a ton of metal flakes in his oil, he already knows something's up. If you have bearing material or something like that in your oil, who cares about the rest of it? You can check the glitter with a magnet and see what it is. Why spend $40+ and wait 3-5 weeks for oil test results?

The world is filled with horror stories of people taking their car to the dealership or oil change places. Why would that have you wonder?

What's the official warranty in the USA, is it transferable to a subsequent owner? Is it 5 years/100,000kms like here?
If so, it still should be covered.

Powertrain warranty is 5 years 60,000 miles... good for subsequent owners as well.

Had to buy a plumbers wrench to get the catch can undone.Catch can is about 1/4 full maybe 3 or 4 ounces not seeing anything particles in the oil in it.Also looked down in the oil fill with a light not that it means anything but the part of the chains I can see look like new and clean no sludge or anything.Im not sure if it was emptied on the prior oil change or not.But I have put 3k on it so does that seem like a normal ammount of oil in catch can?
