hes talking about the insurance reporting built into the car

i dont this it reports the read speedlimit vs the actual speed

either way everyone should turn this off
Again, I ask how?
What specifically reports this to "an insurance company" ?
(because many of us would be without insurance were this prevalent/true).

Data Ford releases to data warehouses isn't _driver_ specific. Best case, you can establish the owner of the vehicle and that does not positively identify the --operator-- at the location & time.

Agreed. There is an option to turn off data sharing right in the settings. But I don't even think insurance can use that. There is no way an insurance company can be tracking your car driving habits without your knowledge. There has to be more to this story.

so @Billycar11 isn't wrong about the possibility of vehicle data sharing.
https://www.verisk.com/company/news...aborate-to-offer-telematics-data-to-insurers/

But this reports to Verisk; a data warehouse.

"https://www.motor1.com/news/793649/...4, weĀ haven'tĀ supported these programsĀ at all.

This article has a lot of words, but ...
https://www.fromtheroad.ford.com/us...s#:~:text=Don’t some insurers,your phone only.

"...It’s part of being an educated consumer in the modern era. It’s a terrible feeling to find your data out in the world being used in ways you don’t expect, are too personal or could harm you. A good example of this is people who don’t realize that they are sharing driving data with their vehicle insurance company through an app on their phone. Maybe they’re leadfooted and their rates go up unexpectedly
Ford itself does not give your driving data to your insurance company, ever. But all kinds of apps can indirectly feed your info to insurers so it’s really important to read those terms of service. Of course, many people choose to voluntarily connect their driving behavior via an insurance app. My dad does it and you can see things like his average highway speed and whether he’s braking hard. But if you’re doing that in a Ford, it’s happening through your phone only."

Anecdotal report Ford isn't sharing any more:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...4QFnoECCgQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3nqiz5blCTyS7CR6Bh2H38

consumer reports:
https://www.consumerreports.org/ele...-collecting-sharing-driving-data-a1233378612/

I'd still like to know if there's an insurance type or related app or service involved.

FYI, the insurance company (insert company of choice) is getting data from your car, then it is laying that data over another third party's data that would (or should) match the speed limit of the street you are on. We use a well know dash cam company and they have issues all the time. For example, the speed of the interstate is 60MPH. You go over an overpass and it temporarily reads the speed as the street below it. It dings you for speeding. While we can manually go through and ifx these, it is a pain in the arse to do so. The layering of the data causes issues. Specifically when a lower speed limit street is incorrectly overlayed on a higher limit street.

Reading the OP's post history, I feel it's in their best interest to sell the S650 and move on.

Spoiler Alert: the new and used vehicle arena is a buyer's market today. Don't be shocked at the trade-in of this, or any nearly-new vehicle today. If it's any consolation, people buying vehicles can often get them at good discounts.

For the rest of us:

Start/Stop: For those considering a new vehicle, not every one comes equipped with it. For those that do, at least one company sells defeat cables to disable it.

https://www.4dtech.com/start-stop/view-all/

https://www.4dtech.com/mustang-24-26-start-stop-eliminator/

FORScan and other programs could also be an option.

Insurance Reporting: The information I've read on-line about Ford's process is, they receive data from the vehicle, anonymize it, then re-sell it. There is personal information associated with the driver and the vehicle. Not every manufacturer is so caring about our data. Services can be turned down, features can be disabled and one fuse (Ford) pulled to prevent any uptake of information.

If anyone is using a nanny box to get better insurance rates, this is between you and the insurer.

Speedometer Problems: It should be pretty obvious if someone is driving at 22 mph / 35 kph or 55 mph / 88 kph. If the driver can tell the speedometer is mis-reporting what they are feeling or witnessing, relative to others, there's a warranty for that.

If this is a case of an insurer reading a program and witnessing something else, this is between the Driver and their insurer.

Lane Keeping Assist: the problems with Lane Assist are not unique to Ford or 7G Mustangs. I'm currently in a rental for a DD. The car tracks some roads one way, other roads another. In my example, the condition of the road and associated striping is critical. I disabled the feature. Again, there are warranties if the Driver believes the feature is operating incorrectly. Several digital services also have sensitivity adjustments.

" There are many other areas where the 24 technology is inferior to the S550." šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. The only thing I can suggest to the OP and others is test-drive one, rent one, read articles, review forum threads, study owner manuals, watch YouTube and talk to people that own them. Before purchasing.

Edit,

Re-selling of driver data is, unfortunately, something common throughout the industry. How this data is gathered, stored, used and resold requires study by the Driver. Every manufacturer is different. FWIW, every vehicle I have studied, disabling these services is often quite simple. Anything from turning down a switch on a phone app to pulling a fuse or disconnecting a cable.
I really appreciate all of your detailed responses. Always factual and friendly. šŸ‘

If it's sending data to your insurance company--disable that. Lots of threads going over what to disable.

I suspect you did not get all your over the air updates, because lane keeping assist has really improved since what was there initially. I use it regularly without any issues.

I hate the speed limit icon that clutters up the speedometer. It's totally wrong so many times I don't even reference it. One time it told me a local main street with houses and businesses that's been 35mph since forever was 55mph šŸ™„

Man. I dont know what to think with some of you. I never even noticed the speed limit icon until someone on the forum pointed it out last year. And Ive never once seen mine read wrong since then.

there is no reporting to your insurance co unless you have a dongle provided by your ins co to "save" you money. that's the last thing it would do for most of us.
And yes, always turn off any data sharing

Well, to be honest, here in czech it shows often wrong. Because we have speed limit canceled by every end of junction to the default speed. We have 50km/h in town generally, there is a speed limit of 30 on the road by sign, you pass a junction, speed defaults to 50 again but no end of 30 by sign in most cases. Car does not know that and keeps dinging for speeding for long time the speed limit is already 50 again. So inaccurate in our country too.

That's a shame. I did turn off the alert chime on mine. It'd be sounding most of the time

So if you never noticed it in the first place, it’s unlikely you’d spot if it’s reading wrong… 😜

I don’t think mine has this feature, I certainly don’t remember seeing the speed limit on the dash. I use Waze which is mostly correct.
