I was thinking about an EcoBoost. My car would look and drive fantastic and I would get a lot of compliments and people will often ask if it's a dark horse. I don't know if I could have got a DH last year which I doubt and if I did it probably would have been $60K more. I have 315 HP vs 500 and the tuning you get with the PP. So that's why I don't get the DH, enlighten me. I mean most people think our cars look the same.

sorry I had to lol

Hah! Oddly enough, the RTR / Ecobeast / Magneride Eco-Pony versus the Dark Horse is a more legitimate discussion than "base GT versus DH".

Why? It's actually a different car, not a cheaper spec of the same car. Totally different engine, power delivery, radically lighter front end, it's suited to shorter tracks and tighter roads.

I say it all the time, trim levels aren’t noticed by the public at large. OP makes a great point.

Even car(mustang guys) ask if my GT is a dark horse.
I’m glad OP loves his EB.
I joke around all the time that my car is nothing more then a fancy rental car with some race tires …I also think 90% of the public wouldn’t know the difference between an S550 and S650 from the outside…

I had a lightly modified 2017 Eco-Vert. Loved it.

But you should have got a SS-1LE

I've had several people jump my arse for saying basically the same thing in 6 different ways here on these very forums.

The "min-maxers" always run into this problem in the enthusiast realm, because they just want to be patted on the back and told "good job, you made the perfect choice". Their pony is best pony. That's painfully at odds with the reality of diminishing returns, tradeoffs, and highly-specialized setups for different motorsports.

But don't worry min-maxers: Whatever you're doing is okay. You are okay.

Ah yes, exactly the people I turn to for engineering expertise. Should I take the sales manager's advice and get the triple warranty on the infotainment system too? /sarcasm

It's a turbo engine that wants 93+ octane (98+ EU) fuel. It gets put in the hands of people who run cheap gas, skip oil changes, and do dumb things to their cars.

I see what ya did there. Well hold on, this is about to get real.

When I started shopping the S650 (July 2023) as my new "sunny" daily driver, I figured it had to be a V8 since we already had a S550 Ecoboost. The Darkhorse with the Blue Ember Paint was my first choice. However, I don't like all the vinyl/stickers, which could probably be removed. But that front end is hideous (sorry DH owners), I prefer a cleaner look. I kept coming back to the S550 Eco and how much I enjoyed that when the wife would "let me" drive it, as it is her daily. I also have other V8 cars, so that becomes less of a "necessity". The Ecoboost just looks so much cleaner and not so "busy", and still has more HP than most older V8's. Adding the HPP and all the goodies makes it perfect (and the wife jealous, lol). Now if they come out with a Shelby or maybe even a GTD lite, and some better color choices, I may change my mind (and the wife gets a "new" Mustang). But for now, just loving the Ecoboost!

Oh, and BTW an Ecoboost with HPP and all the goodies is likely to be more rare than the Darkhorse!

Hate hearing this like it's such a positive thing. Those 4.6's were dogs when they came out. Laughed at by the Chevy guys. And then the EB guys act like they are so superior to the 3V guys when they are basically the same speed

The Camaro V6 owners always talked about this when the 3800 V6 came out (1996?). 200hp! More power than the 1980's 305 V8. Big deal, those cars sucked when they came out and everyone knew it!
