I would say most radars made nowadays that are $300+ are going to give you advanced warnings.
im still rocking the original valentine 1, and there’s a V2 out now. I would check Facebook marketplace or eBay.
Uniden is another great brand.
escort has also been around forever but I just think they’re ugly and have too many buttons
+1 on the Valentine 1 G2 or the Uniden R7 or R8. I have both the V1 and R7. The Uniden's have GPS built in so you can create Mute memory for X-band falses in locations. The V1 G2's are bluetooth updateable now instead of having to send them to Cincinatti for updates.

I must be getting old, didn't think anyone really used radar detectors anymore except truck drivers.

I have a Uniden R8 that I have been running about 1 week. The companion app is something else that is recommended with that one even though it is $10 and some people use waze on top of that. The R8 already saved me once when I was out at 3am on a non-residential back road about to do some testing. There was no one else traveling the road to clock at that time so I'm not sure how it even detected the officer. I guess his radar gun was bleeding signal or something. He was hidden extremely well. So well that I didn't see him when I pre-scouted the road as he was all backed up into the woods in a black SUV. He still couldn't hide from the Uniden R8 somehow and I aborted the test.

I'm struggling with the same clip you were on the passenger side. I can't find my curved panel removal tool. I could only find my flat one that isn't working well. Did you end up taking that clip off last or did you work in a different order due to that difficult clip?

Just muscled it out. Didn’t use a trim removal clip at all. It should be fine. It’s like that plastic piece on the housing is slightly off from where it needs to be from the factory

I tried to work in a different order and it didn’t want to come out. I like @Interstellar muscled it out. It will make all the noises of something breaking and then it doesn’t and unsnaps fairly abruptly. It also takes quite a bit of stressful pulling….that is the feeling I remember.

Run the R8, Highway Radar (app), and Waze. If you're not sure how to adjust all your R8 settings, you can use a HR share key from someone else to copy thier settings. I'm running settings from DC Fluid, a respected member over on RDFORUM.ORG. Also, find Vortex's videos on YouTube.

For settings I run strictly Ka band.
X - band is long gone as well as causing tons of falses.
K band is pretty much legacy as well now too.
Laser is RIP if it hits you anyway and all the toll roads causing falses was why I ended up disabling it.
Ka band maximum sensitivity.

No tickets and never been pulled over for speeding. I probably go over the speed limit all the time except school zones.
Use Waze for long road trips and unfamiliar areas.

Same, mine did the exact same thing yours did too where the one difficult yellow clip stayed with the window. Just had to pull a lot harder and bend the plastic more than I wanted to. You really do have to pull hard enough to the point you think you are about to break something. Probably would have went a lot smoother if I found my curved panel tool. I'm very happy with the install now though. Thanks for the great write up! I just need to find a shorter right angle USB cord for my dash cam now.

Looks good glad you got it off finally lmao.
I have about 5 feet of thick wire from my dashcam tucked into the headliner right here. It’s not attached just tuck the wire

Good idea! I noticed there is a gap there at the headliner when I was messing with all of this. I wonder if it will kind of wedge pressure fit up in there or if it will be falling out from time to time. I'm guessing the rearview mirror housing would probably keep it in place for the most part.

Yep, this is my setup as well. Super easy, and I paid $9 for the wire.

Has anyone here removed the rear view mirror cover to tap into a 12v source for a mirror mounted radar detector and if so, how? Is there a video somewhere? Google didn't find anything for it.

And if you use a proper trim removal tool, the cover will come off with all four yellow clips still intact!

Tucked up nice and neat, right at the top of the windshield

FYI: Ya'll know there is a USB-A female socket on the bottom edge of the what's mounted to the windshield, right? The icon right next to it implies that you can draw power from it.
